hi, i just bought lenovo ideapad gaming 3 15IHU6 82K10150MJ
spec for ram & storage as below:

Memory 8GB SO-DIMM DDR4-3200 Ram x 1
( Upgradable )
Memory Slot Two DDR4 SO-DIMM slots, dual-channel capable

Storage 512GB SSD M.2 2242 PCIe NVMe 3.0x4
Storage Capability Up to two drives, 1x 2.5" HDD + 1x M.2 2242 SSD or 1x M.2 2242/2280 SSD + 1x M.2 2242 SSD
• 2.5" HDD up to 1TB
• M.2 2242 SSD up to 512GB
• M.2 2280 SSD up to 1TB

1. what brand of RAM and SSD/HDD to look for? want to survey2 the price online n buy when got sale
2. is it easy to DIY install? opening back cover wont terminate warranty right?

thanks

Last time I bought new laptop, I straight away bought the desired specs + parts upgrade from the brand itself, so it's covered by the full warranty.
And it's usually cheaper that way.

Since you didn't, wait 2-3 years until your warranty expire la.

1. Any well-established brand will do with good warranty. Don't buy the cheapest one and you'll be OK. My top picks for RAM is Kingston or Crucial. SSD either WD or Crucial.
2. Yes it's straightforward but if you are not a DIY person, it will be hard. If there's a warranty sticker, then no more warranty for you.

Make sure there are unused RAM and M.2 slot.

For RAM, i advice you run CPU-Z software, purchase the same brand model.

For SSD, i suggest Samsung or Crucial.

I bought same brand / model for my son few months ago.

Upgraded to 16GB. I use ADATA 8Gb SODIMM DDR4 3200MHz x 2. I keep the original 8Gb. sweat.gif

Its's as easy as opening the back cover. You can download workshop manual from Lenovo for a guide. EZPZ.

You can get 1 more stick of 8GB 3200Mhz ram to get dual channel + 16gb ram is comfortable for most.
Ideally should match the ram but it's not really possible in this case unless you want to buy 2 8gb sticks together
Just get 1 adata 3200mhz stick or something
Consider Kingston, Adata and Crucial brand

As for SSD/HDD
Depends on what you need/want
If you want more bulk storage, you can add a 1TB HDD (i suggest Toshiba L200) or for budget SSD storage can get something like Silicon Power A55 or Crucial MX500
But check if that slot exists first, some models may have an extended battery that takes up that place
if you want more high speed SSD storage, can get a single stick of M.2 2280 sized SSD, judging by the 1tb limit, it's probably in a crammed location so probably only single sided drives will fit
Personally I've always suggested the Kingston KC2500 but it has been discontinued
Key specs to look for in SSD is dram
Also luckily the stock SSD is 2242 sizes, it's much harder to find those sizes.

It's quite easy to do as Lenovo provides a Hardware Maintanace Manual that guides you step by step on how to take it apart
Some models even have videos.

Warranty situation I'm not sure.

Why need to wait for warranty to expire?
Dell, HP, Lenovo, Acer, MSI, ASUS and many others doesn't void the laptop warranty for upgrading the SSD & RAMla macha

Since you never buy fully upgraded in the first place, pakai the laptop first la. If still alive and kicking after warranty, give it an upgrade & new life.

yeah if buy from official website can choose what to upgrade,
but the delivery is very long. for lenovo la, other not sure.

I bought from shopee only, at the time 8gb price significantly lower than 16gb,
so i thought buy 8gb first and upgrade myself would be a cheaper option.

so far the spec are good enough for me,
just want to monitor price for these part,
if got special deals than baru grab brows.gif

Nope. I've upgraded & RMA'ed all those brands I've mentioned above. So I know what I'm talking about

Not everyone is rich enough to buy a laptop fully spec'ed. Sometimes they need a laptop ASAP for their work/study because their current laptop broke but have to save some money to buy the upgrades later

If the user does video editing and whatnot, they need at least 16GB of RAMs whereas most standard laptops only come with 8GB of RAMs
Hence why it's completely unnecessary to wait for the warranty to be over for you to upgrade the laptop when the manufacturer themselves allow you to do it as long as you don't cause physical damage during the upgrade

Warranty void stickers are illegal around most of the world. I personally have removed and not encountered any problem with the vendor during service.

most new laptops no longer come with sticker at the casing so it is safe to remove the bottom cover. ram & hard disk are meant to be self serviceable. so, upgrade away.
