Just curious are there any Web developers out there who is self taught and did not have have any IT/Computer science cert? If so, how much is your salary? How long did it took you to go there? Any advice in following your footsteps?

i start in the industry as an 'intern'. work for free for almost 1 year with allowance now and then. then i was promoted to web developer with fix salary and so on.

find a company hiring junior or interns. expect low or no salary for starter. point is to gain the experience mileage and learn skills and industrial knowledge. dont lie. be humble. show you are hard working. but of course you need to know at least basic programming beforehand.

Possible follow market, but not every company.
if your work and mindset are good, some company won't mind paying the same.
Certification are more on proven you're good. Get one for yourself, good for future career path.

find some company that looking for junior, create some work to present urself during interview, dun mind low salary as u have no cert or experience, 1-2 years later, once things get familiar, jump ship

2nd step is the most important, since u have no cert to prove, work done and thought process during development is important in presentation

Get some online course certs. It might not carry much value, but at least you have something to show and talk about.

I got my first coding job with an online course cert that costs me only rm50 tongue.gif

It was a hard work nonetheless

agree, without cert. You need to prove yourself with results. With both are plus point.

In my years of interviewing, not once did I say, oh please show me your certificate, especially when it comes to a position such as a developer or a UIUX developer or web developer. I will always ask them about their past projects, whether it is work related (those who have experience), or personal projects (those who are new to the scene or fresh graduates). Personal projects are a good way to showcase your skills as well.

Many in my company do have non-IT degree. The most important is what they see from you. I believe even if they dont have an IT degree, what they have is the passion and willingly to learn themselves, even before the meeting. You say you are interested in developing, but if you have never go and explore yourself, it doesn't make sense that you never try it out yourself.

Developers need to be able to explore and learn themselves, when they are studying, being a fresh grad, a senior, and so on. You need to have that traits too.

Interesting topic but I have one silly questions,

Upon promotion day in salary/rank wise, do the 'non-cert' web dev gets the chance to ranked up without any sort of cert?
