to all respected/beloved forumlowyat users,

I intend to move to a new job in the GLC sector, the offer letter has been received but there is anxiety in accepting or rejecting the offer,

the offer is a one-year contract, the salary offered is RM100 less than the current salary, but the advantage is that 3 types of allowances amounting to RM760 will be given,
The distance from my home are around 5-6km

current job status is permanent, 4 years (1 company)
no allowances
The distance from my home are 7-8km

what do you think should i let it go or wait for another chance?

I really appreciate your advice and opinion

are u have plan after the 1 year contract?
allowance 760 cannot consider part of basic salary when ur contract end and when u interview for new job.
the new HR will not consider this 760 when they wan to hire u.

I always look at 1 step ahead...if the new job opens better prospect after that, I will definitely take it.

How much is that $760 in relation to your current salary?

Usually the reason why some folks would accept a contract role is because companies might pay more for a contract role. That is to weigh the risks between monetary gain vs future employment. But in your case, its the opposite. You are jumping on contract for a lower pay, but you want that additional RM760 in allowance (not sure how much is this vs your salary). Consider this, if your contract gets terminated within say, 3 months, would the additional RM760x3 be able to sustain you whilst you look for a new role?

I sense u prefer this contract because it is GLC related. 1 year can be quite short and u have to be prepared to be jobless if the contract does not continue. I know in your heart you wish to be absorbed as permemant. Try asking around if u got friends in there the chance of being permenant from contract.

Mind sharing your long term career plan other than just joining GLC? Like do you want to go overseas or manage a team or want to be an individual contributor? Or are you in it just for the money?

What about other benefits offered in your current role? Leave entitlement? Any bonus? Insurance? All this can be considered against the one year contract offer (normally contract role doesn't have many benefits that's why they offer allowances, is this true in your case?)

I’ll say give it a miss unless you really cannot continue to work with the current one anymore.

Permanent position downgrade to contract position is unwise move. It is normal for contract worker to be paid higher , easily 20-30% higher than permanent staff because they will not get permanent staff benefits like annual bonus, insurance, etc . During the tough condition , the first group of ppl to be let go at any organisation will be the contract staffs , this is the hard fact & this situation is happening at currently.

Tbh, allowance won't be in my consideration at all.
Seems like your current job still advantage, just 7-8km away.

if you ask me, i will wait for another better offer. Good job don't come easy, they come in timing
