Recently I planning to buy Toyota Hilux Rogue 2022 for own daily use.
I done some research and found that Hilux is the thief magnet and easy to be stolen. This is one of the reason the most insurance companies not selling this car insurance to the public.
This make me want to re-consider on this buying plan.

Any honest feedback here?
First-timer 4x4 buyer. Thank you very much!

high risk vehicle. even my bro Triton can't renew insurance policy via website, had to personally call their helpline to get someone to evaluate before renewing policy

I know 7 persons whose Hilux was stolen.

3 at knifepoint when they were approaching it to go home after a day out.
2 their home was broken into for the key while they were asleep.
1 at gunpoint as he was leaving home for work.
1, someone came to his house, told him to remove everything from the Hilux as that night some people would be coming to steal it and suggested that he parked it outside his gate.

this is a problem with most trucks though other than the PRC branded ones.

Hilux owner since 2012.
Insurance can use Bjak.my to renew. Got two insurance companies there will insure.
If Toyota then is MSIG.

So far never had issue with the car or any experience with theft, probably yet.

Hilux theft happens frequently if your car is standard stock.
My tip to you? Install GPS and Anti-Jammer. biggrin.gif
If you really hardcore find a reputable wireman to install kill-switch.

Relative's Hilux with 3 layers of anti-theft still got stolen in front of his house (without any sound of engine starting).

Steering lock, pedal lock & immobilizer.

Now Toyota offers their own GPS system called VTS to their cars. so additional GPS and anti jammer should be needed right? hmm.gif

Hilux have the best resale value in the market. Imagine Toyota Hilux Vigo 2011 2.5L VNT second hand car dealer offering RM 60-62K 😂

A modified one is as likely to be stolen as a stock one.

2 of my friends had some rather well customised rigs that were nicked including one that he had spent a good 70k on it for various off-roading mods…. Of course it never went off-road.

No use if the thief is professional. This is only good for those newbies, if professional usually they will study or at least knew your car security system before go in for it. Previously i met an old "ex-con", he feedback early days already a lot of exotic sport cars or special limited cars with sophisticated security system also can get stolen. Usually they will do their dirty job in multilevel basement or underground carpark as where the GPS signal is limited, after gone out of the car park they will get another trailer ready usually with seal cargo container for the car to go in and you wont be able to detect where the car location.
