-I'm pointing that
continuously defragmenting your harddisks in the background will wear out the disks. Why? Refer to above link (Diskeeper site); they talk about numerous
disk accesses (read/write ops) required for fragmented files. Then, how about constantly defragmenting some files as they are modified? The original programs alter the specified files, then the Diskeeper touches it (to defrag) again. Doesn't that increases disk access counts?
Note that this only affects files that are modified frequently, and/or change in size (getting bigger/smaller) during modifications, or different clusters being used. For static files (even they're accessed many times), this doesn't apply as Diskeeper doesn't touch them.
