Sounds like a bad mounting.  When change mounting, it is best practise to change all 3 (Left & Right Engine Mounting + Gearbox Mounting)
When switch to reverse gear, Engine will Rev a bit higher than Idling, and when driving forward will be a bit hard to notice mounting faulty.
If there is something wrong with your brakes, it doesnt matter whether it is forward or backward, your steering wheel will vibrate like crazy. Do note brake vibration doesnt limit to brake pads, it may also cause by warp brake disc, calipers, ABS.
