2nd - What is your monthly electricity bill?
3rd - Do you have RM40-50k standing by as a start?

1. Standard double storey house.
2. Monthly Rm 400 - 600 / months
3. Wahhhh so expensive seriously.

I thought renewable energy is cheap 😓😓

Need to consider also how long solar panel and batteries can last before replacement.

No batteries involved in NEM.

Yes, for RM 400-600 bill you need 10 kwp setup.
Which is around 45,000.00
Takes 6-7 years to recoup the investment.

But, there is a big BUT, this NEM policy stays valid for 10 years only.
After ten years, you can't sell it back to TNB anymore to offset your bill.

The way out is installing another battery setup (20-40k) depends on cost of the battery 10 years later.

I roughly did my calculation previously,
for 20 years with 10 years of NEM policy (sell back to TNB) and
10 years of self consumption (Install battery after 10 years),
the CAGR is around 5.5%,
which can be easily achievable by putting the money in EPF plus without any headache.

Meaning same amount of money put in EPF, get you same return like Solar Project.

Correct me if my calculation is wrong.

NEMS policy stays valid for 10 years only.
Panel has 25 years PERFORMANCE GUARANTEE, by most supplier.
-0.5% performance per year, as advertised by most companies.

Risk would involve:
Panel being defective (Few hundred to fix, for material, but you sure you wanna climb the roof?)
Blown inverter (Few thousand to fix)
Leakages due to installation (They drill holes on your roof to mount the panels and did not seal it off completely)

unless you sendiri pull wire and electrical plug direct from solar panel.

I don't calculate but with solar panel output and batteries degradation, at current cost I'd say not worth it.

Yes, put money in EPF probably generate enough to cover the bill laugh.gif

I meant, any investment that recoup in 6-7 years is good.

Just that Malaysia NEM3.0 policy is so short and there is no sight of NEM4.0 in the work yet. So installing battery is the way to go after 10 years.

Battery is the biggest concern here. Cost and reliability and it drastically reduce the return of these projects.

Yes, for sure.

I have a friend install solar panel on his roof, the energy generated enough to power his whole house.

But they also not heavy energy user la, as in they dont spam aircond whole day that kind.

Then every month they harvest excess energy, they can actually store it and sell it to TNB.

Win-win ROI + Green energy

But of cz the installation is very expensive

Because current NEM3.0 policy by SEDA only covers for 10 years.

Meaning after 10 years, there is no more Malaysia Government telling TNB that they should buy from us, do you think TNB will continue to buy from us, when this policy expires?

So after 10 years of NEM3.0, when there is surplus generated in the day, and TNB refused to take it, it has to go somewhere, aka battery. Or else how do you think you can use the surplus that you have generated in the day AT NIGHT for your AC?

If no batteries, how to get power at night? During day, where to channel excess power if not storage. Panel output is DC anyway and output is not constant. The AC is generates using inverter from DC.

You cannot store and sell anymore.

You can only offset next month bill.

Meaning if you have surplus this month, you will have to offset it with your usage next month.

TNB will not pay any single cent to consumer. TNB can choose not to charge you next month TNB bill only.
