QUOTE(wawasan2020 @ Sep 30 2007, 10:56 AM) i think taylors are good... but only the higher ends... for around 2k i think can better at other brands... is it? i just need a good sounding dreadnought though... no need for pickups/electronics...

Yamaha's APX range has laminated tops, I think? Not sure abt the CPX and higher end ones though. Seagull's worth checking out and if you don't want to spend too much on an acoustic, the Washburn D10s is worth a look. Should be around... RM1000 maybe?

Sorry to borrow your thread for a while, I got a question. Are new acoustics suppose to sound a bit "tight" but will open a bit when seasoned for some time? So usually new guitars doesn't sound so nice? Is there such a thing?

Laminated tops open up but not much I think? Not really sure why, probably because they don't vibrate as much as solid wood? Acoustic n00b here lolx. xD

i think it is because of the strings.. usually new guitar strings are a bit tight... not much loudness produced.. it happened with mine.. now it is louder than the original

glue dampens vibrations. so with a laminate, of cos you got the same amount of glue layers as with laminate.

Grains on the guitar wood will tend to open up after prolonged usage, due to weather, soundwaves etc and that is what causes the guitar so sound more open or mellow after it has aged. In fact, a good acoustic guitar will only sound better after aging.

for that price, just go and try everything out there till ur satisfied. People here can only recommend the guitars but in the end its ur personal taste. I think the washburn can be found at the Acoustic Shack. That price range u can get a really nice Seagull with electronics, Simon n Patrick, the Yamaha (i think maybe even the LL6, which is way better than the FG series), Taylor Big Baby (someone selling the Taylor 110 with the ES System for RM2500 nego here), Takamine's, etc etc. Happy hunting!
