Hi guys, I plan to buy an Iphone 13 Pro Max via Digi PhoneFreedom 365. So, the device will be known as a 'Telco Set'. Will they unseal the box upon passing me the device? Is there any special thing I need to take note of since it is a Telco Set? How will it different from a normal device and is it safe? Thanks.

Only unsafe when you didn't pay your bill for more than x number of months as Telco can perform Phone Locking as their last resort.

You can check with the counter on this.

Other than that you are the one who owns the phone but you need to be in full tenure for the contract period as per signed if not there will be additional penalty charges.

And also if you are planning to resell the phone after that, you are pretty much in dead end as most buyer will avoid telco set especially those that is under 2 years unless you can share proof that you had purchased fully or proof that the phone is already out of contract.

Nope, I'm not planning to resell the phone.

During the contract period, do they have the 'authority' or anyhow to able to access my data in the phone?
After the contract ends, will they still able to perform Phone Locking? I suppose I will be having 'full right' after the contract ends.

During contract, depend on the phone, they have the authority to control the phone. I remember green telco sets got some stuff cannot access but forget which one but it is in Android though
After contract ends, you own the phone
If they perform locking, you can actually blast them for unauthorized lock

From a personal experience, I got an iphone with maxis 360 under a supp line of a family member plan, but they did not pay the bill and my line got cut out, and maxis locked the phone, so any local sim card won't work on the phone.
- but sim card from other country worked, i guess there is some sort of system between telcos in malaysia to block a phone

The only difference is in ownership.

Same like hire purchase to buy vehicles lah.
Until you paid off, the vehicle belongs to the financing company. You don't pay, they come tarik.

For telco set, the financing company is the telco.
they retain the right to bar usage if you did are a bad paymaster. And since Malaysia have a industry-wide ISP blacklist, you will not be able to get telco and internet services from any provider again until you clean up.

i'm not sure if CTOS also note if you are blacklisted in the industry database.

There is no rights for any third party to access your phone data especially when we talk about iPhone which the data is strictly locked to the owner.

The only way for third party to access your personal data is either the owner shared the password to another person such as Family Member or by sharing your icloud detail to third party.

Thank you for replying....I don't mind they lock my phone (if I don't pay on time), its just that I might store a lot of p and c docs in the phone, worrying they might have the authority to access it... since according to your reply, its basically impossible, then I'm fine to go... thank you so much guys.

For example, Samsung has a device management Knox on the phone that allows telco to lock mobile services, control certain functions on the phone to prevent access but not gain access to the phone content. This functions are meant for company to control their staff company phone from leaking info out when it is lost. I heard for Android some features cant work if on mdm and some banking apps wont run.

which maxis plan?

The plan that does not let you keep the phone (around 24 months return old phone and get a new model) has it
My sister is on that plan and her s21 has it
It may not be an app but i remember it's something that restrict some settings (ex: do a real factory reset)

i always take zerolution (noswap),
NOT zerolution360 (swap around 24mth or continue paying few additional months to noswap).

replace phone because need-to (damaged shard unsafe to put in pocket, no part and battery replacement, or skip to latest update). part of the routine is i always check what's (system) installed after initial boot, because i will remove suspects and social media-anything upfront - especially whatsapp facebook instagram wechat whatever-chat scum of earth) even before sign in to any account; had never seen anything called Device Guard.

anyway, TS was asking for iPhone hire purchase with telco.

i don't think the so-called Maxis Device Guard is anything he needs to be worried of if he really goes for iPhone and Zerolution.

In Merehsia, if buy or get phone from telco's, would it be the phone is locked to their carrier only. So in future only still can use that telco and not others?.

Nope.
20 years ago, maybe.
Now, I think only Celcom and TM that went back to stone age; lock their B618 modems.

I think blame those scammers who sign up for the phone and change hand sells it + not paying their installment. I believe the fraud case is very high triggering telco to implement such control to discourage resell during installment period.

Every good thing + abuse => inconvenience follows ...

I think the “discount” you get comes with the control. Question is whether you willing to do the exchange.

If objective is to take phone, runaway and default payment, need to find other telcos to do it …

I have been Digi iPhone contract (not PhoneFreedom 365) since iPhone 6s and just got the iPhone 13 last month, Digi never install any software on your iPhone, Apple has very strict security policy, basically Telco will not be able to install software on iPhone unless Apple approves it (which I really doubt Apple will allow Digi to do so)

Digi can lock your phone by locking IMEI if you don't pay your bill during contract time, this is what Digi can do, but it cannot read your phone data at all.

Hi all,

Have anyone got their phones locked before from purchasing Telco set and after showing proof that you actually purchased from an individual, can you get it unlocked?

Current phone that i am looking at is still in contract with Maxis and it's a stranger

Hi Raymond thanks so much, just noticed there are actually many used ip15 pro / max in the market so i think not worth to risk 1-200 hundred for it..

Thanks bro! By the way just out of curiosity, after 2-3 years of the contract. Will the physical sim still be locked?

If there’s unpaid overdue only will be blacklsited by telco. If good payment usually no problem.

The locked is only apply for Malaysia telco, once the phone at overseas all telco can be used
