they even tried to use pure distilled water, but unfortunately the distilled water doesn't work well for long, as the distilled water they use still contain some ions and impurities that conducted electricity.

Theoretically 100% pure distilled water should work, as 100% distilled water shouldn't contain any ions to conduct electricity.
