This is what u call oil cooling... It's something like liquid cooling but it uses oil to transfer the heat from the electronics parts. But u can't simply use any type of cooking oil though.. The composition of it must be correct.

come on .. if the oils preserve the heat so well ... it wouldn't being used to cool off a system ...

the idea is to make sure the things are cool and silent ....

this isn't the first one that done .... there were few started last year ...

1. cooking oil won't burn.
2. cooking oil won't conduct electricity.
3. cooking oil can prevent your rig from being corrode.

so no worries.. just worry about how you're going to clean them..

er..bacteria wont affect ur mobo i think..only oxidation can cause ur mobo failure due to unable to conduct electricity..and its impossible to happen is such no-oxygen condition like the one in the cooking oil..

Hmmm i heard that it is possible to put the hdd in the tank but not the dvd though. But I wouldnt try that either sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif. Definitely will try this during holidays with some comp junk biggrin.gif:D:D

Hmm........had a sudden idea. Why not cover the entire mobo n gfx card etc with some kinda protective resin stuff that they use for dry ice cooling(saw that somewhere if im not mistaken). Then if its water-proof i suppose u could use water as well right? Wanna oc?? Just drop some icecubes in and youre good to go rclxms.gif rclxms.gif rclxms.gif

tomshardware did that many many many moons ago
they even tried to use pure distilled water, but unfortunately the distilled water doesn't work well for long, as the distilled water they use still contain some ions and impurities that conducted electricity.

Theoretically 100% pure distilled water should work, as 100% distilled water shouldn't contain any ions to conduct electricity.

dont think putting your HDD in any liquid would be a good move, you can see from the vid's i posted there were no Hdd or Dvd-Rom inside the tank
the items maybe located on top of the tank, hidden inside the black cover

it is good to "sustain heat" not to really cool it , lol
after a long hour it will continue to store heat only ...

u will still need thing like water cooling radiator / pump to really cool it efficiently , lol

they say cooking oil will build up something after a long time too @@

They were using mineral oil, very effective, and they did try it with an older version of pc before they use the mid setting pc.
there's an experiment where their using ocean salt water, with turns out badly

Salt water is electrically conductive, not to mention extremely corrosive on sensitive computer parts - I don't even know why anyone would try that.

But mineral oil is not electrically conductive, non-corrosive, and pretty much inert stuff. As far as physical properties - high specific heat, like water or glycol based coolants, so as long as you have a good radiator, I guess it should work.

Of course, you can submerge anytihng with non-moving parts and it should work, the viscosity isn't going to help with anything moving faster than 1RPM =)

It would be a major PITA to change parts though with all that oil. Not really practical IMO.

Imagine trying to sell a graphic card covered in oil - no way to really clean it, since solvents that can remove the oil would mess up the card too. sad.gif

nope.
eg the hsf.u need to make sure it is above the oil level. u dont submerge all the components into the oil.
and also, the psu and all the drives is outside, not submerged it also.build them on separate area.
