Cannot comment much..... apart from that it should not come as a surprise that a few Asian countries will operate quasi-aircraft carriers.
It is just a coincidence that F35Bs can land and take off from these LHD/LHA ships. Pls understand that...and most of the time or sometimes or most of the time when it is time, it is just a LHD/LHA. Of course, these ships will have a protective screen e.g. submarine, heavy frigates or destroyers, multi mission frigates, littoral multi mission vessels and large OPVs. Coincidence la. Oh btw, the Italian Cavour is really a LHA. Hah. Maybe a "LST" with a large deck. Akan datang.. This post has been edited by Mai189: Oct 22 2023, 06:02 PM |

QUOTE(azriel @ Oct 19 2023, 07:57 AM) Korea likely to review Indo's participationhttps://www.asiatime.co.kr/article/20231016...obwcvr#_mobwcvr Translated article - if you know a bit of Korean - the language is rather strong - the Koreans are unhappy: QUOTE [2023 National Inspector] Eom Dong-hwan "Inni, if you can't pay the KF-21 contribution, you will reconsider the origin" This post has been edited by Mai189: Oct 22 2023, 07:11 PMNational Assembly National Defense Committee, National Defense Projects Agency, State Audit [Asia Times=Cho Kwang-hyun Reporter] Eom Dong-hwan, head of the National Defense Program Agency, mentioned the possibility of suspending cooperation with Indonesia for the development of the Korean supersonic fighter KF-21 "Boramae" (Indonesian name IF-X). Indonesia is currently unpaid a contribution of 9911.<> billion won, and it will be interesting to see if the project will be fully reviewed in the future. Appearing at the National Defense Commission's State Audit Meeting held at the National Assembly in Yeouido on 16 July, Commissioner Eom replied to the MDP lawmaker's point that "fundamental measures should be taken" in connection with the issue of India's non-payment of the KF-21 project contribution, saying, "I visited Indonesia earlier this month and met and discussed with key figures such as the defense minister and the president's chief of staff." Then, Commissioner Eom explained that he had conveyed his position to Inni, saying, "In order for the KF-21 project to be terminated normally, the contribution must be paid, and if we do not submit a credible and actually feasible plan for the three-year period of 10~2023 by the end of October, we will have no choice but to reconsider the entire project from the beginning." According to the framework agreement signed in 21, the Korean government and Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) will pay 2014% and 60% of the development cost, respectively, and the remaining 20% will be borne by the Indonesian side. In January 2016, Indonesia signed a contract with KAI to produce 1 KF-20 fighter jets in the country after receiving one prototype and various technical data in exchange for a 1 percent share of the project. However, due to the deterioration of the country's economic situation, Indonesia has paid only 2.1 billion won out of a total of 2694.2783 trillion won worth of contributions by February, and 9911.<> billion won has not been paid. For this reason, some in Korea have argued that the KF-21 business contract with Indonesia should be terminated. In particular, the INNI side agreed to purchase 21 French-made "Rafale" fighter jets this year without paying a share of the KF-42 project, and signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the purchase of 15 U.S.-made F-24EX fighters. Commissioner Eom also said, "I pointed out in a roundabout way that (the Inni side) is showing a discordant behavior," and "I asked them to actively inject finance into contracts between countries." Referring to Indonesia's current defense minister, Prabowo Subianto, as a likely candidate for the next presidential election, Han Ki-ho, a member of the National Assembly (NDC), said, "If this person becomes president, there is a possibility that he will turn the tables," and "we should think about a 'Plan B.'" QUOTE ![]() Formidable class multi mission frigate (note: this is before the mid-life update): Key sensor: Herakles phased array radar: >250km (for Block 1 version) to >300km (for Block 2 version) (possibly Sea Fire AESA radar like the MRCV destroyers after the mid-life update) Missile load-out: 32 Sylver VLS launcher for: 16 Aster 15 Active missiles with >30km range (VL MICA NG active missile after the mid-life update) 16 Aster 30 Blk 1 Active missiles with > 120km range (could be replaced with latest Aster 30 Blk 1 NT variant with >150km range) ^ How many Asters and VL MICA Ng after the mid-life update depends on the arrangement of the VLS silos. Note: VL Mica NG does not require Sylver VLS launcher. up to 24 Harpoons SSMs with >130km range (up to 24 Blue Spear anti-ship/land attack missile with 200km to 400km+ range (depends on flight profile) after mid-life update) Current tonnage: 3200 to 3300 tons (will likely be heavier after mid-life update) No. in service: 6 Hobart-class Air Defence destroyer Key sensor: Lockheed Martin AN/SPY-1D(V) S-band (Aegis) radar: Abt 315km range Missile load-out: 48 cell Mk 41 VLS launcher for: 32 SM2 III semi-active missile with up to 160km range and 16 ESSM semi-active missiles with about 40+ range (or 40 SM2 III missiles with 32 ESSMs (in quad configuration)) 8 Harpoon SSMs (to be replaced with 8 NSM anti-ship/land attack missile with more than 185km in range) Current tonnage: 7000 tons No. in service: 3 Note: Active missile are better for saturation attacks as a ship can launch more active missiles. Hobart's semi active missiles are constrained by the number of illuminators on board. Hobart has 2 AN/SPG-62 illuminators so I suppose 2-3 targets simultaneously per illuminator hence more semi active missiles are usually carried to make up for possible misses if the illuminators are overwhelmed. The SPG-62's role in Aegis fire control is to illuminate targets in the terminal interception phase. On the other hand, it is reported that a Type 45 destroyer can have more than 16 Aster 30 Active missiles simultaneously in the air (no need for end game illumination). The NSM missile may not be as long legged as larger missiles and with a smaller warhead but itll do.
More importantly, RMN has no viable anti missile missile defence until the LCS comes online. The sea wolfs on the lekius are old and im not sure if it even works with the cms from india. Need to depend on RSN and RAN/RN (they may not have assets in SEA all the time). This post has been edited by Mai189: Oct 27 2023, 10:29 AM |

QUOTE(azriel @ Oct 28 2023, 01:03 PM) ![]() Elang Hitam MALE UAV. Photo by Bambang Haryanta. Read more: https://nasional.kompas.com/read/2023/10/24...uksi-drone-male More importantly, the lesson from Ukraine is that drones need to be smaller for them to be survivable. The average lifespan of a drone in Ukraine is less than 3 weeks. A light combat jet lasts longer. Turbo prop UCAVs or sub sonic ones are also useless in attack mode if an opponent has credible air and ground anti air and ew defences. The way to go is small drones and swarm drones. |

Came across this:
https://people.defensenews.com/top-100/ Newer Chinese companies are featured in the top 50. It is difficult for non western companies to break the dominance of western companies in terms of arms sales. So far, the most successful is South korea followed by a bunch of countries from east asia and middle east e.g. Singapore, UAE, etc. |

QUOTE(takbodoh722 @ Oct 31 2023, 10:57 AM) most defense co are for local markets. If one list based on export defense, list will be substantially different. Thats true. A constraining factor to many defence companies i.e. they need to prioritise national interests first. HangPC2 liked this post

SG's Exercise Panzer Strike 2023 in Germany. SG's Hunter AFVs are equipped with at least 2 Spike LR 2 5th generation missiles - more can be carried internally but I am not sure if the launchers have an auto-loading capability. This post has been edited by Mai189: Nov 5 2023, 05:37 PM |
