QUOTE(Mai189 @ Jun 26 2023, 03:40 PM) According to open source or SAF, its new artillery piece will be introduced end this year or next. It will replace both the Primus sph and the fh2000 155/52 field howitzers. Looks like Sgs artillery will consist of the 120mm SRAMS mortar systems, himars and the new Sigma (?) artillery. Good article on the Sigmas:https://defbrief.com/2023/05/17/rheinmetall...howitzer-trial/ https://www.shephardmedia.com/news/landwarf...ntract-from-an/ Note; Sigma is using the l52 a1 barrel which gives added range - as much as up to 60km or more depending on the artillery round. In future, the l52 barrel can be upgraded to the l60 barrel with range in excess of 80km. It can compete with mlrs in terms of range. Edit: Sg also has the Pegasus 155mm/39 cal light field howitzers. So the stable of artillery precision fires will be the 120mm SRAMs, Pegasus 155mm/39cal field howitzers, Sigma 155mm/52cal SPHs and Himars. QUOTE(darth5zaft @ Jul 10 2023, 07:32 PM) No-one says anything about it being built solely to do dogfight They do not need to dog fight to win. I dunno about the gripen but an F35 pilot can see through the plane to launch missiles. No much need for a fancy circus dance. But unlike Gripen & F35, the F22 & GCAP are designed to be able to win dogfight. https://www.airandspaceforces.com/article/e...ing%20a%20plane. Tech has advanced. It is like this video. Forget the fancy moves. The sensors (from a system and not just the plane) and weapon will do the rest. QUOTE Although much of the Indian concerns come under classified domains, the Modi government is aware of the threat posed by arch-rivals and is working with friendly countries like the US and France to build potent firewalls to ward off attacks. The seriousness of the threat can be gauged from the fact that it was Singapore which apparently tipped India on Chinese cyber-attacks on Indian military installations during the Pakistani retaliation to Indian Air Force’s attack on terror camps in Balakot on February 26, 2019. https://www.hindustantimes.com/india-news/p...8102268940.html |

QUOTE(darth5zaft @ Jul 11 2023, 08:13 PM) No one says anything about needing to dogfight to win. Ultimately, the F35 will see first and shoot first and win it; near and far. And that is what matters.I'm saying F22, GCAP are designed to win dogfight if it ever happened and pilots are still trained to dogfight. Saying dogfighting is obsolete despite jet are still designed to do so while pilot are trained to do so is what you get when you listen to YouTube expert I say As for the F35. Its always been designed as the low in the high low mix's. If that amounts to your idea of a "dogfight^". And it will be the primary interceptor and fighter of many countries. |

QUOTE(takbodoh722 @ Jul 11 2023, 08:31 PM) F-35 vs Gripen more like BMW vs Perodua. More than double the horsepower, everything inside substantially more advanced. Not many people realise but the computing power and software capabilities are substantially more advanced than even the F-22 for a simple reason, date of manufacture. This especially with the latest TR upgrade. The closest in that respect ironically is the F-15EX. Not too hard to see where the Sings will go with their already 4.5 gen F15Sgs during the latters MLU in future. It won't be a f35 but it'll still be an improvement. 2 RAAF 5th Gen F35s took out 6 4.5 Gen F15Sg. https://theaviationgeekclub.com/two-raaf-f-...Fwww.google.com |

![]() Singapore Readying to Launch new satellite Singapore Readying to Launch Israeli-Manufactured satellite (typo in article - should be satellite instead of UAV) The DS-SAR was acquired in 2018, meaning that its development process lasted about five years Ami Rojkes Dombe | 9/07/2023 Contact author Singapore acquired the radar in 2018, meaning that it took five years to develop until launch, as reported by space.org.sg. This is the average development timeline for aerial industry satellites. The website mentions that when the satellite's acquisition was announced in 2018, Singapore’s Minister of Trade and Industry, S. Iswaran, said that it will serve both governmental and commercial purposes and support the imaging requirements of Singapore – including maritime security and oil leak detection. The SAR payload is developed by Elta, an aerospace industry subsidiary. It employs the same technology used in the Israeli Ministry of Defense’s SAR satellites. https://www.israeldefense.co.il/en/node/58815 https://nextspaceflight.com/launches/details/7201 https://www.space.org.sg/ds-sar-satellite-a...st-electronics/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the 3rd surveillance-related satellite launched by Sg in less than a year with the earlier one being NeuSAR and DS-EO: https://www.dso.org.sg/media-centre/media-release/1606 https://space.skyrocket.de/doc_sdat/ds-eo.htm ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Recent satellite launches: https://tnp.straitstimes.com/news/singapore...ster-monitoring + the DS-SAR above so 4 satellite in total recently with 3 in conjunction with SG Government agencies i.e. Defence Science and Technology Agency and Defence Science Organisation. ![]() Source: https://www.janes.com/defence-news/news-det...e-spear-missile Note >290km range is without booster rocket part and it is for low or terrain hugging or sea skimming profile mode. Blue Spear=Sea Serpent=Gabriel 5 has range of between 200km to 400km depending on flight profile. QUOTE Due to confidentiality concerns, McKenzie did not reveal information about the missile’s terminal phase, but he did reveal the general performance specifications of the Sea Serpent, saying, “The Sea Serpent is designed to give a good stand off range. In its flight profile, it can achieve greater than 290 km in a low profile mode. It has an extensive capability against peer plus threats. But I can’t give details about its terminal phase on this unclassified forum. I can say that it is hugely exciting and the Royal Navy will be pleasantly surprised with the capabilities that we are offering.” Source - Israel Defence Industries or IAI: https://www.navalnews.com/event-news/dsei-2...i-ship-missile/ The missile is jointly made by Israel and Singapore for long range maritime and deep inland attacks. So far, the ship and land launched versions have been revealed. Singapore will replace its Harpoon missile with the Blue Spear missile. This post has been edited by Mai189: Jul 24 2023, 11:28 AM |

Supersonic slamming missile (from ballistic missile design) with range of about 300km for stand off precision strikes against hardened or soft targets on land and sea with warhead of 150kg (larger than NSM). Built for Israels F15s, F16s and F35s and/or a few other countries which we do know - not open source except for perhaps India. Now the UK is also keen. Note: 1) Attack angel of up to 90 degrees for pin point precision strikes against hardened targets on land e.g. bunkers or ships at sea. 2) Capable of swarming time on target attacks from various angles This post has been edited by Mai189: Jul 25 2023, 02:36 PM |

Good article on RSNs ongoing naval constructions and acquisitions:

Meanwhile, all 4 Type 218Sg (2 awaiting commissioning and 2 more ready but undergoing tests) + 2 Archer AIP equipped submarines would also be in operation. The Archer class may be replaced by more Type 218Sgs. This post has been edited by Mai189: Aug 6 2023, 12:21 PM |

Finally, RSN has announced that the service will be replacing its Bedol class minesweepers and Endurance lpds with new ships.
RSN has stated that the Bedok class minesweepers will be replaced by unmanned systems which it already has in the form of Venus USVs with minehunting equipment. But these USVs need motherships for carriage and it could come in the form of Odense Steel Shipyard cube system ships: The Endurance class lpd replacements will be the largest ships built by RSN at estimated 17000 tons to 20000+ tons. I doubt it will be a totally ST design with RSN opting for some sort of hybrid design like the MRCV heavy frigate/destroyers. Ships in this class include the Endurance 170, Hyuga, Dokdo and Mistral class LHDs. ![]() Japan's Hyuga class ![]() SGs Endurance 170 I won't be surprised that Sg selects Juan Carlos class LHDs and orders 2 of them. It checks all the boxes. Proven design. Low manpower and high automation. And F35bs can land and take off from it. RSN has seen it and operated from it thanks to the RAN. My guess is that it'll be a Juan Carlos derivative. ![]() This post has been edited by Mai189: Aug 6 2023, 12:22 PM |
