Yeah, what cooler are you using? And at what vcore? The core temp is quite high for a 45nm proc, isn't it?
*
he is using stock..
normal..

also core temp is still buggy for wolfdale..
nobody knows the actual tjunction

hey warning to those who are seeing american/european dudes OC
remember this is january.. like end... thats the coldest time of their winter season

but on the other note..
geee thats a high vcore..

ello...
can i change my Core 2 Duo E8200 Processor's Heatsink
to a Core 2 Quad heat sink BUT removing the fan.

means passive heat sink for CPU le

btw, is there any stuff to cool your CPU down without adding any fan?
i want to make my whole PC silent...
remove all the fans from my GPU and CPU.
*
kekek i did that
with the E8400 overclocked to 4ghz on passive cooling... the coolitfreezone.. normal with the fan turned off..
at around 1.27v...

passive cooling no noise at all.

so any body with a good WC can go passive if they like with no fan on the rad.. shouldnt be a prob.

and none need that high vcore..
whats ure fpo no?? for ure proc.

FPO Q747A304
i'm doing tat with 500fsb...
i've try pass 550FSB lower multiplier no problem with little bump of PLL voltage temp NB bout 40C
i'm WC APOGEE GT ,MCW 60 for 88GTS512,swiftech
MCP655 ,1203 rad low speed fan x 6pcs 1/2" setting

i think the temp should not be tat high ...but just dun dare to try my luck...
still hoping for better temp reader...
water temp bout 30C only ...last time Q66 water temp bout 38C temp reading not high as this...
*
if had that board a few other DQ6...
i always find that their temps readings for NB is definately wrong....

the 680 dq6 was a classic example... readings always around 40 something
but the heatsink on it.. u cannot even touch it.. its that hot...

dude i think u need to adjust ure nb/pll and nb GTL..
so far i found quite a few ppl didnt know that for the e8400 u need to adjust the GTL to decrease the Vcore and increase stability with the rams..

for 500fsb i need NB 1.62v, PLL 1.63v , FSB termination at 1.5v..
will post in a minute
stress testing now..
want to pass 2 hours min.

actually ... i feel headache to guess guess game with this mobo...trying to sell it ...get ASUS ...
i use temp gun to point at NB  heatsink temp 31C i think not so hot....still no luck lowest voltage now 1.360v CPU-z reading
cannot lower anymore...failed prime after 15mins if lower vcore...
*
its the gtl..
i had the same prob
then i corrected the gtl...

infact i didnt realize if i left it auto was the best..kekeke

wats GTL ...?izzit for ASUS mobo?
i dun have such thing in my BIOS...
try to run 3Dmark06
i need to put 1 step increment vcore than prime stable to run 3Dmark06 ...
*
wei 3dmark06 easy
i already posted 4.5ghz at 1.49.. and that was stable even at OCCT 30 minutes..

trust me this one pass..
usually 3dmark06.. if anything can pass sp32m already u can do overnight loops on 3dmark06..

its ure nb/pll..with the NB gtl Strength..

it causes instability with the rams and bus since this is 6mb cache.. and thats y sometimes difficult to boot or start the comp.
once u get it right u can keep lowering the vcore...

even ure sp1m is very low...

by 0.6sec

anyway look up at this
thats almost the same setting i am using now

i should get a damn ASUS ....
*
dunno leh
but usually this is how u overclock to find stability

use prime small fft 15 mins to 2 hours to find vcore
the occt or prime blend to test mem/fsb stability..

All of a sudden, i am eager to know how far is the difference between the Q9300 and Q9450 here. Would the extra 6mb Cache prove to be a major difference between them.. smile.gif
*
not only the cache the ss4 instruction

roughly the difference is 0.2ghz difference..

a 3.2 c2d 65nm = 3 ghz wolfdale...
overall ..

Don't forget that the multiplier is also lower for the Q9300. Details of quads:

Q6600 - 9x multiplier / 2.4Ghz speed / 8mb cache / USD 266 / runs hotter

Q9300 - 7.5x / 2.5Ghz / 6mb / USD 266 / runs cooler (due to 45nm process)

Q9450 - 8x / 2.66Ghz / 12mb / USD 316 / runs cooler (due to 45nm process)

With the lower multiplier, it would be difficult to OC the 9300 to 4 Ghz as you would need 7.5 x 533mhz = 4.0 Ghz. Not many mobos can do that. Furthermore, there would still be the CPU's FSB wall....

The Q9450 would be better with the 8x multiplier. You just need 500mhz bus speed to get to 4.0Ghz..... again, 500mhz is not an easy OC with the average mobo....

That's why I have decided to give the penryn quad a pass for the moment..... maybe next time when it is much cheaper.... for now, going for 2nd-hand Q6600....  smile.gif
*
500fsb quad... its a dream...

agreed currently i favour the q6600 also..

one thing i can tell u however..
the t-junction is not 105..
suspect around 90-95

this is the problem with 8200.. and the review u saw

they will not increase the NB more than 1.5-1.6v

so thats y they are not pumping 500fsb..
it would be misleading ..

most boards hardly need a increase on NB for 445fsb..
thats y.
long run 500fsb on a mid cheap mobo is asking for trouble.

yeah must have been world record for surviving doing it at a room with no heater at winter
the NB voltages he must have modded it also..

Finally! Penryn quad review : Q9300 vs Q6600

It seems that Q9300 is a better buy at stock clocks due to the same price point of USD266.

However, when it comes to overclocking, it's not really the quad of choice due to it's 7.5x multiplier. This is also taking into consideration that by the time it is released, you can probably get cheaper 2nd-hand Q6600......

Also, for those who is not into video editing/apps that uses 4-cores, the E8500 at USD266 would be the best choice at that price point....  wink.gif
*
hmm even getting that at 3.6 would be difficult.

Frankly speaking, Intel's new penryn CPU is getting less and less attractive.... no, not because of the performance. It's due to the prices......

Let's see what AMD's phenom can do with it's new revision.... slated to come out in April..... although I don't really give much hope to the initial release, which would probably be around 2.2-2.4Ghz only..... However, native quad core with the capability of controlling each core's speed/voltage is interesting....
*
agreed..
heck for quaddies with that kinda of multi's the q6600 G0 looks pretty sweet
on clock to clock performance gain on the 45nm is merely 5 percent difference on average...

which u can overcome with higher bus and proc speed..
