MapThis? does it do the voice thing, "keep left, keep left, turn left, now" thing? lol i cant seem to find an installation guide though..

yes only one software for GPS for the PSP in malaysia at the moment and it is Mapthis.
If i'm not wrong there is function for the navigation thing but sadly there are no maps with the data(geodata if i'm not wrong) for malaysia.

i try to download the map using the GMDL
then put inside the software mapviewer_v03 ~> map folder there

i try to use my GPS-290.. at night...
10~20.. to retrieve the satellite data.. to my psp...
then half and hour later.. can used already...
ai.... but i will upset on it..

1. VERY SLOW>>>> the software always said [SPEED WARNING SPEED WARNING SPEED WARNING]

2. Looks like the Google map GMDL is outdated for malaysia map,
cause i try to download the whole KL map.... but.. when i using gps.. while i am driving... the location gps dot on my psp screen there, is not exactly 100% same on the map there...

3. i hope sony malaysia have a own server to let GPS psp go very efficient, just like Singapore, i heard from my customer.. they paid SG 30 per month, using GPS there.. and is fast ....sleep.gif".. how come malaysia still dont have .. sigh..

yupp it is very slow... but then again it is also not as power consuming as the normal GPS systems.

For the mis alignment thinggy maybe it is the sat signal is weak lah since you are driving in KL. GPS system tends to fail when you are not in the open area.

Well I doubt many will pay for that service when you can do the 1 time investment on other GPS systems.

As for the Penang map the size can vary one. Depends on how much detail you save.

i was plannin to get a gps for my psp too, but i scare it will ended up useless if i dono wad i'm doin..

guys, as for start when i get the gps, wad is the first thing i shud do? eg.dl map? setting this n that? go tat site dl maps?? yea sry bcoz tis really confusing me..

If you want a GPS that can direct you to places, this is not for you.
Currently you can only use the gps to get your current location and to track your path(usage in malaysia).
And you might be dissapointed with the GPS signal connection thinggy as it is much slower then the other GPS unit.

Only advantage you get is.
- Bigger screen
- homebrew(open possiblilty that there will be more dev for this..or maybe not)
- less power cousumption(can work longer then most GPS system)
- Map is FOC from goggle map.

I don't use it to navigate, just for the uses of it or perhaps for the fun of owning it. Well, I want my penny worth on every single thing I bought.

smile.gif same here I just got it for the sake of having it hahahahha.

guys, i am planning on getting a stand alone GPS system for my car. However, i would like to know how well does the PSP GPS do against a stand alone unit?
*
Dude as mention in my post earlier. The GPS unit for the PSP will not be able to navigate you to places. It will just let you know your current position agains the downloaded map.

PS : If you have somewhere read up that it can navigate you(give directions) to places marked on the map I don't see how it can be compared with the stand alone units.

Hey, I see that you are from Kajang too. I'm also from Kajang but currently in Johor to pursue my studies.
Hmmm I might as well buying one though, but I just don't get it how it really work.
Mind helping me out before I officially get one? It would really help alot! Thanks. laugh.gif
