Lowyat.NET Slows Down
It's just my point of view and I have tested in many places, from my home using 1MBPS and my office which is high speed broadband, still seems Lowyat.NET very slow in loading the front page.
Also, there seems slight slow in forum, but it's fine for me to have a surf, post n replying.
I didnt know and amazed that IPB - Invision Power Board having slow thingy, but I think its because of lots of enhancements at the starting page.
My opinion, try putting in somewhere static image inside forum and make it fast according to page loading and database synchronisation.
I am with Lowyat.NET since 2005 and I also seek Lowyat.NET to improve alot. I appreciate and like the time passed along, lots of improvements I have seen and I hope webmasters could do some testing in proving some good stuffs to the LYN community down here.
Supporting Lowyat.NET!
Adios ...

resistance is futile

The front page is slightly slow due to the external ads from our advertising partnet. We have notified them a few times already about the slow response time from their servers - but to date, they have not been able to rectify the problem. The current ad will expire at the end of the week and things should be back to normal.
As for the forum, we believe there is no delay in loading times. We constantly monitor the servers and there have been no spikes in loads, or delays displaying the pages on the server end. You can check the time it takes to compose, send and display your page on the server end at the bottom of the page. (first value is time taken, second value is http server load).

hi. i also experienced some slow downs. not on the main page though (i assume the main page is referring to www.lowyat.net?). it is the main forum page (http://forum.lowyat.net/). There seems to be a slight lag or pause when i scroll the page up or down. even when closing the browser with forum.lowyat.net seems to pause for some slight miliseconds before it actually closed. the weird thing is sometimes it is completely fast and normal. sometimes not. i think it shouldn't be my system because i've no problems at least 2 months before when i notice this. no hardware/line/connection adjustment from my side so far. I've not installed anything new that could cause this too. hmm...i'v tested on some other pages like ign, and some long pages....and i didnt experience the scroll lag/jerk. just curious to know what might be happening. thanks. edit: loading times are no problem. oh, I am not sure whether it is the same thing happened to those complaining bout the flash ads. I do not see any flash ads as I've blocked all ads. but there's still scroll lags. This post has been edited by SpikeTwo: Sep 28 2007, 11:28 AM

If there are no problems with the loading times, your scroll problem should be related to something on your end. There might be some lag on the main page scroll due to the rich media ads, but it should not happen on the forums.
Could you share with us what browser/OS you are using, and also did you recently upgrade your graphics card driver?

hi se7en. ermm....only the main forum page lags (forum.lowyat.net). the other sub forums, eg. hardware, gamer's hideout, bulk order, garage sales, hobbies....etc etc...all no lag. using windows XP pro SP2 with latest catalyst 7.9 driver. Internet Explorer 6.0. No 3rd party software installed. minimalist.

Could it be the long member online list down there? Maybe it's good to "spoiler" or "hide" it.. Personal opinion.
