Just realised that I may have to pay import tax for ram, ssd and nvme that I ordered via Amazon.

No tax if less than RM500?

Parcel total including shipping. But you might get lucky sometimes

Noted that in my Amazon statement, import tax deposit was included in my total bill. That tax is 5% of my total. Does that mean I have already paid the import tax?

I also bought RAM, SSD etc from Amazon as well, and yes the import tax deposit collected by Amazon will be paid to our customs. Sometimes Amazon will refund the different if the tax amount imposed eventually lower than collected amount (i have experienced before).

I was surprised when the RAM, SSD & NVMe I wanted were cheaper, at about 60% of the prices (shipment included) here. So I ordered from Amazon. I just forgot about the import tax as I bought so many things from China via Shopee with no tax as the values were small.

I also bought an air cooler from Amazon less than 5 days ago and custom has cleared it already. Very fast. Ordered one from China but canceled it 3 days later as they did not have the stock. Annoying when they stated x quantity available but later no stock after you placed the order and waited for days. They should be penalised for this practice.

I looked up Amazon web on import tax. The good news, if my paid tax deposit is more than the actual, they will refund the difference. If the actual tax is more, THEY WILL PAY the difference! But I guess they know their business well and this is highly unlikely to happen.

They also stated that if the courier asked you for an additional fee, you can go back to Amazon and they will sort this out.

Tried to compare the MB and CPU I bought locally. Taobao is about 11% cheaper (before import tax). Assuming 5% tax, then they are 6% cheaper than in Msia.

My Mandarin is hopeless. Thus Taobao is difficult to use for me.

Pity.

No import tax (or what I have deposited for the tax at Amazon is enough)?

Or the courier paid for it first and I pay them later?

Hope that it is the former.

P/S Getting really pxxxed with DHL for another parcel. Stuck in KL for a week and the last leg to my town is taking days. Understand that it is HR holiday. But other couriers are still moving their parcels. Used to have high respect for DHL but now it is not at the bottom but beyond bottom!

PP/S Happy to get the parcel from DHL this evening. After 2 phone calls and an email to DHL, the parcel arrived in my town this afternoon and it was delivered within 3 hours! I guess it was given a high priority after my complaint! Ha. Many thanks to DHL here, the tail end delivery is much much better than the head start delivery.

So uh, did you manage to get Amazon to refund the tax deposit? I suspect except for those NewEgg/Amazon Cyber Monday sales, Taobao will still be cheaper when you include shipping,..

No, I think Amazon has forgotten to refund me the paid tax amount! Now I cannot go back to my Amazon ac to lodge a complaint, problems in logging in.
