Yes, Leeds is now a fallen giant, thanks to the financial mismanagement of Peter Risdale. but now, leeds is on a 7 game winning streak, and we'll have more to come!

Respect mate, good enough you have been a fan since being demoted to the Championship but kudos to you for starting a thread even though you're in the First Division now. Who's the boss now? Is it still Dennis Wise? Is David Healy still there? Pardon my ignorance but I seldom follow the progress of clubs outside the top 2 divisions. It's not an insult, it's a fact.

I remember the good old days. Lee Chapman, David Batty, Lucas Redebe, Gary Kelly, Ian Harte, Tony Yeboah (who incidentally scored the first ever Premiership goal unless I'm mistaken), Nigel Martyn and bunch. Kinda miss you lot actually because I used to watch you games.

There is a great article about the rise and fall of Leeds United in this month's FourFourTwo magazine. Quite interesting to read.. Although there are a lot of tension between Leeds and Manchester United fans, as a football fan I hope that they'll survive and return back to EPL.

They are in bad shape financially now... The fans don't deserve all this.

Nice to see a fan who's stuck with his favourite club thru thick and thin. Leeds was a powerhouse back then, too bad the financial side of the club didn't go too well or we'd probably be looking at a Big Five in the Premier League. Still remember the days when Kewell, Viduka and Harte were playing their first team football there. And yea, their hero Alan Smith

Healy left for Fulham. There's a bit of a Northern Irish brigade in Fulham , of course joining Lawrie Sanchez. Chris Baird is also among of them there.

Le Roi, Eric Cantona wasn't a product of Leeds. he only spent a year there and Howard Wilkinson sold him to us then for a mere 1 mill pounds. Bless Howard Wilkinson.

A few American's there as well with Dempsey being the latest addition. I watched a footy programme once and it focused on Fulham. They have a pretty big following in the US of A.

I like him as a player. It's good to see him back after his not so publicised spell with Levante. I actually didn't pay much attention to were he went after Leeds and was surprised to see him in Spain, much like when I found out that Vinnie Samways was with Las Palmas.

By the way, we still have not received any thanks for helping you win your Premiership title tongue.gif

Nice to see a Leeds Untied thread here...hope that it is updated regularly smile.gif
I for one would like to see them back at the top flight as I do have a soft spot for them (mainly because of the reason Don Revie decided to change their kit to all white of course tongue.gif)

really hope dat leeds can bounce back from their crisis... their main problems are not onfield but offield... they are doing ok on the pitch but its their stupid financial management dat brought the whole club down... sometimes its kinda hard to think or imagine dat this is the team dat progressed to the CL semi finals... and dat they used to hav world class players like viduka, kewell, keane, cantona, ferdinand, smith etc... hmm.gif shocking.gif

It's hard to see Leeds coming up to EPL. It'll take at least 5 years as currently their players & strength is nothing to shout about.
But boy, do they have a manager who can shout his lung out not to mention can start a fight in an empty room. laugh.gif

i may not be a leeds fan but i really do sympathize them... seriously... no matter how deep rivalry goes between clubs... its always bad to see any of them suffering from problems... as i do believe in a fair fight... same goes to my feelings about chelsea at the current moment... altho i dislike mourinho and his tactics... but for a club to let go a manager who has brought so much history and medals for the club... sacking him isn't worthwhile at all...

The one game against Leeds I will always remember ended up with the following scoreline:

Mark Viduka 4 - Liverpool 0. I was watching the game in Kota Kinabalu at the time and it was a painful defeat.

*
It was 4 - 3 mate, with Viduka scoring all four goals and declared, that wasn't my best game.

To be honest, many of us felt sorry for leedds, but how many of you know what really went wrong? Leeds' story was an eppitomy of what was wrong in football these days, they borrowed heavily against future success. Meaning taking unsecure loans with very high interest in anticipation of CL qualification and progress. When they had a few bust ups, started off with the Lee Bowyer & Jonathan Woodgate racism trial. Followed by a few other bust ups between players, as well as David O'Leary selling his story of the handling of the Racism saga to the newspaper, everything suddenly fell apart. It was a sad sight nevertheless. How a CL semifinalist went down on such a downward spiral fall that it would scared the best stuntman.

I used to enjoy the football they play, they have this no fear attitude about it, how they would just go and have a go at the opposition, without fearing who they are and while giving respect to the past achievements of the opposition, their approach to the game was akin to "Alright, you lots did well in the past and had a great team, we don't care, if you want our respect, you must come here and play us off the park and perhaps we will acknowledge it at the end of the game." It was great to watch.

Chelsea doing a Leeds? At the moment, I don't see that happening. At the moment, I thinkChelsea is the only debt free club with deep enough pockets from the owner. If he decided to sell, they are still pretty good for a few season yet before anything llike that can happen. Peter Kenyon, while hated pretty much everywhere he goes, is a very good business manager. He'd find ways to keep the club afloat, only thing would be the club have to sell off a few players who are choking the wage bill, that's all.

Current teams that is dangered to "emulate" Leeds in my honest opinion would be Spurs and Man U. This is without looking at their financial reports. Simply because both teams spent heavily and if there's no success on the field, or heaven forbids, crash out of Europe early, the board will have to undertake higher interest payments and that would put more strains on the financial of the club. Especially Man U who spent heavily in the summer while having a few hundred millions pound's debt deom Glazer buying the club. Howevcer, having said all that, I don't think the Leeds' situation will happen again, simply because after seeing what heppened to them, many of the chairman wised up and did not take as much risk. Let's hope for football sake it did not.

I think a thread like this is long overdue. Too often, I've heard fans go silent after their teams have been relegated. I think it's all the more reason to start a thread like this so fellow supporters don't lose interest and they also get to receive updates on their teams progress. It's important the keep the following alive. It's weird when out of the blue, a team gets promoted and the fans magically appear out of nowhere.

Elland Road has always been there, it's just that many ditched the team after the relegation, which is extremely disgraceful if you ask me. I hope it will become a fixture of EPL sooner rather than later. Another team I would really like to see is Nottingham Forest, off topic, but that's what I wanted to see.

Poor Leeds United, that's what you get when you are lead by an idiot like O'Leary.

I thought O'Leary did his best he could... Risdale and the board was the guilty one for 'chasing the dream'...

What a nightmare it has turned into ehh?

Yeah mate I get what you are saying. O'Leary was an Arsenal legend but he spent too much and was never able to bring any success to the club. You have to take your hat off to him though, some of his promotion of younger players, Jonathan Woodgate, Lee Bowyer, Alan Smith, Harry Kewell, Stephen McPhail, Eirik Bakke, Ian Harte and Danny Mills were great.

He in my opinion is the man that lead Leeds to where they are at the moment

BTW, Bowyer was bought from Charlton if my memory serves me correct, most expensive teenager at that time...

Well, judging from those 2 flying seasons, where are most of those players mentioned now? Or even after Leeds got relegated?

Kewell = bombed; Mills = so-so player; Bowyer - best years were at Leeds; Woodgate - still good; Duberry - can't comment, haven't seen him play since Leeds until last season for Reading; Kelly - again, so-so, Ian Harte - bombed after Leeds; Paul Robinson - LOL; McPhail - decent Championship level player; Bakke - no life after Leeds; Kilgallon - decent Championship player; Alan Smith - again, not the same player after Leeds etc...

Those players led Leeds to a Champions League semi-final. They might have slipped off the radar off late but it does not change the fact that they were above average players

And the only player that is still be able to keep up the standard, I'd say Woodgate. Though not as good during his time in Leeds.

Yes because the rest of them has aged. You don't really think that they can maintain a healthy level of performance well into their 30's do you. Kewell is a special player but injuries have blighted his career, does Ronaldo (the real one) become a bad player because he is suffering from injuries, no.

Here we go with Leeds United
We're gonna give the boys a hand
Stand up and sing for Leeds United
They are the greatest in the land

Every day, we're all gonna say
We love you Leeds! Leeds! Leeds!
Everywhere, we're gonna be there
We love you Leeds! Leeds! Leeds!

Marching on together
We're gonna see you win (na na na na na na)
We are so proud
We shout it out loud
We love you Leeds! Leeds! Leeds!

We've been through it all together
And we've had our ups and downs (ups and downs!)
We're gonna stay with you forever
At least until the world stops going 'round

Every day, we're all gonna say
We love you Leeds! Leeds! Leeds!
Everywhere, we're gonna be there
We love you Leeds! Leeds! Leeds!

Marching on together
We're gonna see you win (na na na na na na)

zOMG Leeds Utd!!

Leeds Utd is my first (ex) favorite football club. Kewell, Bowyer, Woodgate and Ian Harte were my favorites. And a white Leeds Utd jersey is still my first and only football club jersey till today.

My fav club now is Liverpool thanks to Kewell.

leeds united rang my bell when it comes 2 UEFA CL semi final in 2000/2001...LU boys put brave displays by getting 0-0 vs valencia in elland road but sadly lose 3-0 at mestalla in 5 minutes...aaahhh the old glory days happy.gif i hope LU can comeback 2 the premiership in 10 years time...also hope nottingham forest, another wounded ex-giants can do the same in another 15 years...i really love the old premiership top 5 days seriously...now the premiership spice is not so hot anymore without leeds and nottingham huhuhu mellow.gif

The team for the new season looks good. Higgs has been superb in pre season, kisborno looks like another great signing, him and naylor together would be rock solid at the back. Last season our problem was in defence, and now we probably have one of the best defense in league 1.

notworthy.gif simon grayson notworthy.gif

The only thing that is worrying is delph, now that beckford looks to be staying. Delphs probably going to spurs, hopefully we can get 6-8 million for him, and the money will be made available for grayson.

So the team for new season (so far):

HIGGS

CROWE - NAYLOR - KISBORNO - PARKER

SNODGRASS - DELPH - HOWSON - JOHNSON

BECCHIO - BECKFORD

subs: ankergen, marques, huntington, white, sheenan, michalik, hughes, kilkenny, prutton, robinson, grella, showumni, kandol.

hopefully grayson will get rid of some deadwood like michalik and kandol and maybe a few more signings, especially if delph is leaving.

MARCHING ON TOGETHER!

i dont expect leeds to return to the EPL, not for atleast 2 seasons. they need to strengthen the club, and hopefully acquire back some of their sold assets, not the players, but the stands, and their training ground! (part of the administration deal).

at least they are no longer in debt. spur on leeds! the championship awaits!

Let me answer this realistically.

How do we continue to follow when there is no Leeds football to watch on T.v?
We are not living in u.k or leeds so is understandable.
As a football fan of course you find something else to follow as long you not supporting rival club such as man utd.The theory is same as why man utd keep on recruiting so much fans world wide because they keep on winning. Now i think is Chelsea turn to growth.

But doesn't matter the heart is always there and hoping this team make a return to premier league and the fans will soon return.

Marching on!

I have been a Leeds fan since 1974 (seen more downs than ups) and it was tough to get info except from newspapers. I used to go to public libraries just to read the week old British dailies as our local paper had little info - until perhaps the 90s. So with the internet it is much easier.

In fact I watched the Leeds-Bristol game on P2P live - bit 'draggy' but live all the same.

Leeds Forever!

Great signings so far this season:

Kasper Schmeichel
Billy Paynter

Both are free transfers. Kasper was really immense for notts county last season. Billy scored 29 goals for swindon last season.

Now we need a right back, a hardman in midfield and probably another striker. Probably a left back too, if parker keeps on getting injured. Could use a centre half too (or two), don't think naylor could cut it in the championship, and kisnorbo was injury prone last season.

How was the meet up session? Sorry I couldn't make it, had to go to a wedding yesterday.

Anyway, another 2 confirmed signings over the past weeks:

26 years old Paul Connolly, who plays at RB came from Derby County for free also.
Seems like a decent signing, he has plenty of experience at championship level, captained both his old clubs, derby and plymouth.

26 years old Federico Bessone, a left back signed on a free from swansea.
At least we have a proper left back now (besides parker who is too injury prone and white who isn't ready yet).

So now, we need one or two more centre backs, a defensive midfielder ala batty, and a striker who can score 20/30 goals per season in championship.

Looking good so far.

this is only my opinion, but why bring your hatred for City to this thread? This is Leeds United thread, you can express your dissatisfaction at City thread.

But afterall, how much things has changed. Reading back at the previous page, i see some nice comment from beandy.

Why don't you contribute s'thing constructively in this Leeds thread?

For example giving them credit for defeating QPR on the final day. It was a good match @ Loftus Rd.
The Peacocks should be proud of their display and with this season ending win IMO will augur well for them next season. Watching the game, IMO I predict they will be candidate for promotion the following season.

Hows that? Difficult?

Try marshalling a decent argument to riposte or refute another poster instead of going of on a tirade or not knowing the difference between say a toy gun and an air rifle. wink.gif

How about this cogitate, correlate and communicate you POV on 'Diving is not cheating' ?

its kinda sad to see people actually support team by how many times the team wins, not by actually had some relationship with the club.

well as for QPR, another london club got away from being points deducted for breaking the FA rules. so what's new?

Leeds have beaten off competition from Liverpool and Chelsea to sign German teenager Monty Gimpel. The 17-year-old defender, who has been part of Leeds' YTS progamme this season, will sign a one-year professional deal with Simon Grayson's side this week despite firm interest from the two Premier League clubs and has been told he could be in contention for the first team after just six months' full training.

Under the wing: Leeds manager Simon Grayson has had time to assess Gimpel Gimpel, who is finishing his studies at Ardingly College in West Sussex - the school Frank Lampard went to - won the independent schools U16 Player of the Year last season and has also been scouted by Manchester City, Brighton and Southampton.

Added on June 14, 2011, 9:09 amLEEDS UNITED youngster Elliot Kebbie is a target for Barcelona.

The winger, 16, joined the European champions on trial earlier this month and played for their famous youth team on Sunday.

He has been at Leeds since the age of eight but has moved to Spain and is hoping to join Pep Guardiola's side.

The Whites still expect to receive a hefty fee if he secures a switch to the Catalan giants.

Kebbie caught the eye as a sprinter in his early teens and was on trial with Manchester United in 2009.

However, he decided to snub approaches from across the Pennines to stay at Elland Road.

In November last year, he agreed terms on a scholarship with Leeds, which was due to start this summer.

But his move to the Nou Camp means he will not be at the club's Thorp Arch academy next season.

Leeds produced current England stars James Milner and Aaron Lennon and recently sold Fabian Delph to Aston Villa for £6million.
