I guess I'm very fortunate for this one. I ask for RM6.1k, which is 30% increase from my first salary in hope that it will be reduced to 15%-20% increase salary (common advise that I heard) but got offered RM7.5k instead (which is very surprising to me).

Yes, I don't have a degree but I self-taught myself and have AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate and Kubernetes Certified Administrator. I think I'm doing very well during interview and able to answer all technical questions confidently and they don't mind at all that I didn't finish a degree yet (degree not a requirement for this job, which is become more common right now for tech jobs as long as you can prove that you able to do the job).

That company who hired him is kinda sus...

Normally... fresh site reliability engineer requires at least a BSc computer science degree.... CKA doesn't give you a passport directly to a high paying site reliability engineer job especially you have 0 experience.... otherwise every tom dick and harry would just jump into the CKA bandwagon.... it takes only 3 months to get CKA certified and it is not that hard...

Anyhow.. not saying the story doesn't checks out.... in this day and age... a lot of weird things that make no sense does happens....

I see a lot of DevOps/SRE/Software Development job right now which don't require CS undergraduate. My current employer also don't mind at all that I didn't finish my degree. In my situation I do a lot of self-learning regarding CI/CD, IaC, Cloud Computing, monitoring systems to name a few (which are not covered in most of the CS undergraduate in Malaysia) with basic like programming, networking, security and OS already learned during undergraduate before dropping out. It's also common to meet other people coming from unrelated undergraduate major and working in the tech job with self-learning. As long as you prove that you have the skills required and self-driven, I think that should be fine. It could also be because my current company is based in USA where self-taught and bootcamp are much more acceptable than in Malaysia.
