Hi tech consultant seniors,

May I know what’s the most suitable pay range for Test Manager in consulting firm (MNC)? Their client is global bank. I want to make sure I’m not getting lowballed anymore.

I have 6 years of experience in software QA testing including testing management and my qualification is Degree in IT and MBA.

Really appreciate your advice 🙏🏻

What is work life integration really? I t just sounds like working non stop and being underappreciated kan? Especially working for Chinese bosses in Big 4
*
Means life is integrated in your day-to-day life. Go to the zoo with the family and kids, oh, have to answer customer call. Overseas having family holiday, have to find wifi spot to take a zoom call. At home during the weekend, gardening and also on a zoom call at the same time.

How about changing jobs every 2 years+? Acceptable?
*
Don't let the years be the benchmark for a change. Focus more on the skill and value you can bring to the table, which then translates to better job roles outside and better pay instead. Remember, it isn't about what you do but what are the results/impact you bring.

Anyone familiar with the pay scale for finance field in SG? How does it compare with someone from MY?

Eg if someone who is a CFO/Fin Director level in MY who then goes over to SG, how much will the salary be?

MY salary RM100k become Sg salary Sgd100k (1:1)?
Rm100k to sgd50k (2:1)?
Rm100k to sgd33k (3:1)?

Anyone with any idea?
*
At this level, it would be a direct negotiation usually. Can't use the usual formulas. Factors that will depend on your salary would be your requirements, demands as well as the type of company that will be hiring you.

Updated on 23 octorber 2022

Hi guys, would like to ask for everyone opinions. As from previous update, i got a 10% salary increment in july 2022 and going to get another rm1000 increase from current company in coming jaunary 2023 (sort of like promotion). Recently i have gotten a head hunter job offer as a Business Development Engineer (range of rm3000 to 5000 stated in the post but could get higher than that maybe?). My company usually give 1.5~2 month bonus depend on how much company earn. My question is should i move to a new job (Cuz i feel like still can learn more things from current company) while the new company required to handle project, provide solution to build some lab environment for Asia country. Since i never touch out about this position, can any sifu suggest me what should i do? I am confused right now as i not sure if i shall try the new oppornity or remain in current company. (New company supply lab-level installation for industry factory). Is there a difference between Mechanical Design Engineer (contact customer, do design, follow up supplier)and Business Development Engineer (developp customer potential business, work closely with design team, required outstation often)?

Have you actually gotten the new job, as in, offer letter in hand ready to be signed?

No idea what makes people feel this is troll..... Maybe they aren't up to the level yet
*
Yes, they normally think that it isn't believable at that amount and here I see mid senior level managers in some MNCs and my industry also earning that amount. Most of the time, they are usually complaining about how much monthly PCB deduction is haha!

Hi, I would like to know what kind of job can make annual income above RM800 ~ RM1.2mil annually? CEO?Specialist?
*
Yes, some CEO's as well as C-Levels make that amount, but it also depends on the size of the company and their renumeration package. Most of them get a mix between cash and shares.

Other roles also include managing partners, managing directors, partners at professional firms (law, accounting, etc..etc..).

Those in Oil & Gas as well get high pay especially roles which do have a bit of risk involved with it (e.g. offshore work), management also get paid quite well and within those ranges you mentioned as well and you don't need to be in the C-level to make that much.

Specialist doctors as well make that much and more.

Insurance agency owners as well can make that amount or depending on your number of downlines you have and how you get them to be productive.

Country sales manager for various industries as well also make that amount, depends of course on the sales total amount and revenues for the country.

The ones that I see the most common who make that amount are usually business owners, not through a salary that their own company pay them (because of the high tax) but through dividends from the company instead. And no, I am not talking about the large corporate companies, I am talking about people who run a few mechanic shops or tyre shops, logistics shops, restaurants/cafe/F&B, and many more from manufacturing and services (manpower, consultancy, etc..etc..).

Job Title : Product Manager
Age :30
Industry : Banking (IT)
Employment Level : AVP
Experience before joining (years) : 4 years
Location : KL
Average Working Hours Per Week (incl lunch hours): 50 hrs
Basic Salary: RM 9800 (15% increment only)
Allowance: RM 200

Should I take this offer? Is AVP average salary usually this low?
*
Usually the band for an AVP starts from RM9k-RM12k for most banks in IT. Assuming that AVP is also the AM (assistant manager) to other similar roles. For banks, don't focus on the title but also it looks at the internal leveling. Some banks use bands, some uses number levels, etc..etc..

i think being employed in Malaysia to exceed 20k is not easy
for sure there are some highly paid jobs, like those off shore O&G etc

IT - there is the low and also the super high - quite a spectrum

Yes, my biggest shock was interviewing a wells drilling engineer who earned RM95k monthly and this doesn't include his allowances yet.
