Raintree wood slab dining table, is it good? The wood is whole piece, not combined from multiple pieces.

How much RM? Any photos to share ? What size ?

Durability will depend on whether it was heat treated or not. Most aren't and prone to wood rot and cracking especially if it is used in a room that experiences rapid change in temperature frequently.

Ease of maintenance? That depends what type of sealant and staining it was treated with, if its sealed with a resin or polyurethane sealant then it would be easier to maintain, natural oils or beeswax then you would need to reapply it annually to maintain the sheen as well as water permeability.

I know someone that has such a dining table and they only apply beeswax to it just before Christmas, rest of the year it is just left as it is and they embrace the cracks, scratches and other imperfections to it as character.

Its a relatively fast growing tree. Wood not particularly durable, but the wood grain is very nice. Depending on the cut, mixture of heartwood contrasting with sapwood can be quite nice. Price point is relatively good. Wont be able to find a large slab of other well-known hardwood with the same price nowadays. Need to make sure the slab is adequately kiln dry, or cut years ago, naturally dried. Nowadays mass market, so relatively fresh slabs are sold without being adequately dry, which makes it prone to warping and cracks later on. Careful of slabs that come from Indonesia. For local sources, ask first before buying. Try get those with moisture <20%.

With wood prices so high nowadays, even fruit tree slabs like jackfruit and durian are made into nice table tops.
