Recently purchased neighbour's house and the land title under wifey's name while our original house is under my name. Will there be any complication if we're to renovate and combine the house into 1 house?

No complication with approval from local authority. Title will remain as two different properties.

If your decide to sell later, you have to find a buyer who can buy both.

Thanks for the info! The biggest structural change will be the deletion of the next door's staircase, other changes is just opening up some big walls and doors connecting the 2 house.

could you share your design? very keen to see what 2 terrace house combined would look like smile.gif

i'm thinking of starting a reno journal here once it's started, but we'll see how it goes nod.gif

No marriage is guaranteed to last forever. so yes ...better to create a Door that connects. thats all you need to do.

I don't know about you but i don't get into marriage in the first place with that kind of expectation and/or worries. Connecting the house like this is just an extension of how we express our commitment and love to each other and if it really comes down to divorce we'd have bigger problems to worry about rather than the house.

Don't omit. Fire safety. You are going to seal off another escape route during emergency. Just connect the 2 unit with the door in between or bring down the wall in between the units.

unless that's a requirement from authority, the idea is to make it as thought the 2 house is as 1 single house and arrangement for fire safety will also be treated as such.

why wanna combine?
really catch worm into backside... as the Chinese saying.

just do all the reno and open door and wall la.

I'm very (overly) fond of the location of the current place and when there's a chance to expand and make it bigger i'll give anything to do it, if it's including "catch worm into backside" i'll gladly shove it all the way where the sun don't shine tongue.gif

well...happy for your to found you idea property which you see yourself staying for long.

any particular reason you want to join the title?

my point is that you may extend, expand and break wall with 2 individual title. Personnally i just feel it create more trouble in future.

a few scenario we may think off- but it may not of your concern, then it is ok

It's still a separate title, that's why i'm asking the knowledgeable members here if there will be any complication with the submission to authority for the renovation.

is the staircase wall load bearing ?
*
the layout mirrors my house's layout, from my previous renovation almost 5 years ago i shifted the staircase and the contractor have to create new columns so i guess there's column on the stair case wall.

If they are separate titles under different names, it is not possible as separate plans are required to be submitted to authority for each unit. The reason is because one side can't sign on the plan for the other side and vice versa. Separate files = authority looking at it as separate unit of houses. Each house will be required to be functional by itself. Your taking out staircase on one side already make it non functional and in separate files submission you can't remove the shared structure/party wall.

If they are separate titles under the same name or names, it is possible and subject to the authority.
If both is amalgamated into 1 title, it is confirmed possible.

Thanks for the great info. It's possible to amalgamate into 1 title with 50/50 ownership? I'm a foreigner while my wife is local Malaysian so i believe this will complicate things for quite a bit especially our property is under selangor jurisdiction (I obtained this landed property right before the foreigner can't own landed property rule is in force).
