How long have you been playing? How good do you think you are? Have you nailed down techniques like sweeping, alternative picking, tremolo picking and the sort?

...other than the Neil Zaza and Canon piece, I don't think those techniques are required... icon_idea.gif

Don't worry about soloing...... concentrate on technique.
Yes it's fun to play them and apply what you've learned, but history thought me that the better your technique, the better your solos......

Yeah, man, no sweat. Everything is like below 10 nps... even Ritchie Sambora can manage it.

well work on your techniques so you can play the songs easier. . .

on songs, you can try any songs from guitar virtuoso's like yngwie, rusty, vai, satch, petrucci, etc. . .

just go to ultimate guitar and type in shred. . . lolxD

how do you work on technique? do you practice technique-specific runs or etudes(is it?) or choose songs that focus on a certain technique? example? i need to work on my alternate picking now..

Grab a metronome, your favourite scale and start picking your way through those BPMs FTW! thumbup.gif

...personally, I don't learn solos to improve my technique coz I get discouraged easily. laugh.gif

...but say there's a pretty fast alternate picked run like at the end of "Silent Night, Bodom Night". Heck, the run is standard 3 note per string, so you can probably just practice that over and over and over and over again until you can play it up to speed or faster. Since it's such a standard run, you'll probably find variations of it in other solos... so you kill one bird with 2 stones, and his friends and again and again and on and on... rclxms.gif

Oooooh, and I find that pointy shaped guitars are better for picking runs than suprastrats, which are nicer for arps... icon_rolleyes.gif

Yup, the sharper the angles on the body, the easier it is to alternate pick... it feels like going downhill. biggrin.gif

That's why I'm worried that the Razorback would just decapitate me.
