So i got this Keropok Melinjau/ Melinjau crackers at Aeon in IOI Mall 2 days ago. Its RM10 for a pack.

I heard about this fruit based crackers a few months ago. But never bothered about it until i stumbled into it yesterday.

Visually looks like fish crackers because of the coarseness and non translucent looking surface. It has almost Dhal/ lentil taste, but without the heavy after nutty flavour. The one i got is very lightly salted, resulting in Very bland, neutral tasting and sometimes bitter tasting chips. It also leaves the mouth a little chalky. Crackers has same hardness as fish crackers.

First time tasting this has a little animal fat oil flavour. (No idea if this was done on purpose or inherent flavour profile of the fruit?) It is not oily at all. In fact it is way less oil in the crackers than all other junk food i have eaten. (Depends on maker it think?)

I think this is good for people not wanting too heavily flavoured things that make them feel guilty after eating it.

Anyone ate it before? I wonder how big this can be if it came flavoured with other stuff like cheese, chili, etc? Can this be contender to Nachos or Potato chips?

It's bitter didn't like at all.
Would rather just eat Sabah amplang or regular potato chips. These are just snacks they're not meant to be healthy anyway so I don't see the need forcing myself to eat something that aren't tasty.

0 sweetness. Really zero. I already eat though 3/4 of the pack today. It is very very close to eating lentil/ Dhal seeds that we can buy from kacang putih stalls. It has very little salt as seasoning. I really wish to try an make a localized version salsa for this. I also dunno how this cracker would do with powdered seasoning. AcePilot might steal business idea. 😁😁😁

The bitter is not consistent. Sometimes it flashes here and there. Maybe its the ripeness of the fruit? But some said lemak taste. That i can confirm. It has a fat from meat taste that is almost similar to deep fried chicken or pork skin. That is quite something.

In my head, since this crackers already has this flavour profile, it just needs some kind of seasoning to ramp up the flavour. Not cheese. But something like garlic, onions or from peppers.
