So i got this Keropok Melinjau/ Melinjau crackers at Aeon in IOI Mall 2 days ago. Its RM10 for a pack.
I heard about this fruit based crackers a few months ago. But never bothered about it until i stumbled into it yesterday.
Visually looks like fish crackers because of the coarseness and non translucent looking surface. It has almost Dhal/ lentil taste, but without the heavy after nutty flavour. The one i got is very lightly salted, resulting in Very bland, neutral tasting and sometimes bitter tasting chips. It also leaves the mouth a little chalky. Crackers has same hardness as fish crackers.
First time tasting this has a little animal fat oil flavour. (No idea if this was done on purpose or inherent flavour profile of the fruit?) It is not oily at all. In fact it is way less oil in the crackers than all other junk food i have eaten. (Depends on maker it think?)
I think this is good for people not wanting too heavily flavoured things that make them feel guilty after eating it.
Anyone ate it before? I wonder how big this can be if it came flavoured with other stuff like cheese, chili, etc? Can this be contender to Nachos or Potato chips?
