Hello everyone , I read some comments when we renew passport, the old IC cannot be used, have to change to new IC first is it ( the one with the ghost image ). I'm still holding my old IC renewed more than 15 years back.

Anyone who renewed their passport recently can confirm this ? Renew IC can get on the spot in UTC JPN ?

Yes, because previously too many fake IC (project IC) and Passport (sold by syndicates)

Yes need to renew your IC and yes can get on spot .

for the sake of your sanity, I suggest you renew your NRIC as well, reason being your look might have changed or address changed (move to another states)

if you go to UTC JPN, you need to bring along your NRIC and RM10 cash to renew it, you will get it within 45-60 minutes after application

for UTC Imigresen, maybe you need to check can they issue the new passport within 1 hour?

hopefully you have a smooth application

Some JPN offices can only issue IC after one week. This is a bit unsafe because they will give you a temporary IC to carry around for one week.

Newer offices like UTC can issue your IC after one hour of waiting.

Ask first before your renew your IC at the respective office.

And yes, you need to renew your IC to the new MyKad format before you can renew your passport

Can you show your IC (of course, censor the details)? Waifu is also using old MyKad and had no issue renewing passport last year.

Yes, you need the "new" IC which has a small photo of yourself beside the big photo.

Nowadays go to JPJ renew road tax also need to scan new IC.

So those still holding old IC, better spend RM10 and renew IC before you go to any gov department.

i was in same boat, the immigration dept proceed with my renewal, but will only release new passport once I have new IC.

lucky due to workday, lunch time go change IC 10mins so all worked out within same expected time frame

Renewed road tax this month at JPJ, am still holding old IC, ok je officer didn't say anything.

But my laminated plastic already came out a bit, n the officer force it in few times because payment machine got problem so need to keep redoing, now almost destroyed my IC 😅 all the reason to change a new one

Why hold on to old IC,? Doesn't take long to renew

Yes. I went UTC keramat to renew passport in year 2019, When I get queue number at immigration department, the person in charge checked my IC and ask me to renew my IC, JPN is just next door. My IC is same as yours about 15 years old (got this IC when I was a teenage). Don't worry JPN department has much less people than Immigration department. You can get your IC done before your getting your passport. I got my IC done in 1 hour. Meanwhile passport need 3-4 hours. Both in the same day.

if the IC has two pictures (one big one small) on it, that means it's the new format.

Which means my wife's IC is the old format. Mine is new format. She did not have any issue renewing her passport late last year.

I'm lucky the passport officer was nice at UTC Pudu, he let me renew me passport even though my IC is super old.

Either overlooked or it's not even an official requirement to have new IC. It's not written anywhere as a condition to renew passport.

Yes. I think so, not a requirement cos there is no law saying we must change IC. Old IC is still valid.

If you visit UTC, immigration department and JPN are neighbors so the immigration officer are helping JPN so that more people will change to the new type of IC.

I got new passport and new IC on the same day.
