Compared to badminton as a racket sport, tennis requires more physical strength while badminton is more about finesse. For an Asian nation, the latter is more of an advantage to us. Maybe that's why it caught on better.

Plus the fact badminton courts take way less space and ar easier to setup than tennis.

Msia don't play sports which require much more physical and rough court/terrain
Especially badminton can start with less people as long as you have the money to play.

below rm100 already enough la for play petang2 or suka2. no need upper range  racket as long can pukul the shuttle cock.
if no court main dekat luar petang2 also can as long no wind.

in that case then tennis lagi cheap apa. u literally play outdoor regardless windy or not and 1 ball could probably last a few months mem

Either hot or raining.

I don't understand why tennis must be played outdoor.

badminton as long as you have open field and less wind can play edy

and proper infra we have less

this is what i agree with
Badminton i can just whack the shuttlecock or just play with a partner/neighbour as a kid with the road being the divider line

Malaysians mostly follow trends. Plenty of condos and even my small town public sports complex have tennis courts and you can easily buy the equipment,.so it's not accessibility

It's just that we don't have a local winning big in tennis like the Sidek brothers, LCW, etc for Badminton or Nicol David for squash so it never got far in mass appeal.

On a competitive level?

Anyway, combat sports is the best equalizer. Got weight class so there would be no excuse if you suck. People just love to play girly/picnic games more.

dafuq? I think badminton is much more expensive!
my mid range racket aline cost me 3xx. 1 dozen yonex as30 cost me rm90 and only good for 10 games. not to mention the court booking fee 2.5hrs for rm100 kek.
*
You kidding me or what. Your mid range Badminton racquet price is low end beginner tennis racquet price

I rmbr my coach started us off with 180 bucks racquet then "upgraded" us to 280 racquet. I went online to search dafuq those racquets are from the same range, considered low end in US. Mid range ones go for 400-600 .

Tennis balls? One can cost rm20. Your shuttle cock rm20 got how many inside?

And you think badminton courts expensive please go see how big a tennis court is compared to badminton. And the surface maintenance needed. Of course. Lots of courts poorly maintened .
