Not recommended to buy Gree, lots of my relatives used it, and most of them having trouble of it leaking and malfunctions. Still prefer Panasonic and Daikin.

Can you define leaking and malfunctions? As in the gas is leaking, or condensate dripping, or condensate not flowing, etc? So what is the malfunction after that?

Leaking as in water leaks, malfunctions as it doesn't work anymore after some years. I visit my cousins every year, so I noticed them installed a new Gree aircon, then after around 3-4 years, my cousin mentioned that it doesn't work anymore. In between they also mentioned that it keeps on leaking. The visits were during CNY, and it was installed before MCO.

My mom's main company is distributor for Gree, and her working branch office also having the same issue with some Gree aircon leaking water.

Can you imagine Gree, being the largest air cond manufacturer in China, making a faulty production run? There'd be 1k complaints on that model!

But your story sounds like a bad installation from a lousy technician.
