hey...fellas,now i wanna get some LED backlight for my keyboard...u see i dont wanna spent a few hundred on a logitech g11 or g15 keyboard....so instead, i wanna mod my keyboard for some backlight....

u see,my keyboard is from my 1st computer(like 6 years ago,HP multimedia keyboard) and i love my keyboard...

sometimes when i was typing at a room with the lights off,is hard to hit the key right....

so can tis be done??

any advice?

i wanted to find help but it kind of expensive and the cost of it can buy a g11 already...

another reason is tat the g11 is LOOOOOng especially with all the macro keys and it doent fit into my table....

this is wat i did:
get on of those flexible USB lights...than let it hover on top of ur keyboard
but this is only possible if ur PC has front USB ports and is near the keyboard...
mayb u can some how stick (celophane tape it) to ur monitor and use USB cables to power it...

use those EL cables.
But you wont be getting the glow out from the keys of the keyboards

hmm.. i still cant hav any idea how to do that... how to put something beneath buttons when it is too close to the board... if use small LED (hand phone keypad LED)... hav to install a lot... if u can find transparent button to replace current buttons... then u can tembak the LED from side..

juz look for USB LED torch, then point it directly to ur keyboard so u wont hurt ur eyes like using table lamp...

maybe you should try handphone LED as omara86 mentioned .
5~10 LEDs per row ?

some modders are using EL wires to make diy backlite led keyboard..the result is awesome..but its quite risky for ur keyboard to hav failure unless if u r pro enough..but if u do it carefully theres nothing impossible..gud luck mate!

LEDs isn't too good to get nicely spreaded light.
That, unless you use an acrylic sheet to spread out the light.

EL cables, you can get from Niclas from the garage sale.
Also can be found in rooftop Sg. Wang.
But one thing about el cables in Malaysia, they're all 12V, so you need to have another cable coming out of ur keyboard. (Bad thing, the converter is huge... so...)

Also depending on your keyboard, you must take note of how high the keys are from the base of your keyboard in order to fit in the el cable.

I guess, if you can get hold of 5V el cables, it'll be pretty easy to add them in. Also tongue.gif do inform me if you can get those 5V el cables.

sorry for not able to response any sooner....ya know mooncake festival is yesterday and i almost burn down my friends house and when i got home,my cousins almost burn down my house....lol...some kind of karma...

anyway...i reli like link to the other forum...is nice but onli back light but the letter dint illuminate....

and bout the EL wires,i should say this 1st,i'm using a notebook and my keyboard is external one not built in to the notebook's......so i duno the 12v connector is available for notebook.....

so now is the idea,i try to find transparent letter for my keyboard so tat it will illuminate when there is backlight...otherwise the whole point of this DIY is useless

thanks everyone for their ideas....
