Anyone have any tips for my current issue? My previous router tp link 1200 there 1 room in my house getting bad signal strength on the 2g band but it was still usable if really need to use. Now with my new D link wifi 6 router that room cannot get any 2g signal at all but surprisingly can get 5g signal but it is unusable bcs it's not stable at all with the low signal.

Fahmi says 5G adoption rate remains low at 4.2%, cites price of devices as one of the reasons

Friday, 08 Sep 2023 3:20 PM MYT

PETALING JAYA: Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said Malaysia’s 5G adoption rate remains low at 4.2% despite network coverage reaching 68.8%.

In the Facebook post today, he also said that the ministry will ensure 5G coverage continues to expand and hits 80% in populated areas by the end of the year "for the good of the people and the country".

On Aug 6, he said he had raised the issue of Malaysia's low 5G adoption rate during a visit to Samsung's headquarters in South Korea.

He added that the high cost of 5G devices was among the reasons for the low adoption rate.

He said the ministry will foster closer ties with telcos and Samsung to provide affordable 5G devices for users in Malaysia.

On Aug 31, his ministry launched the 5G Rahmah package with a device price as low as RM240, together with a 60GB data plan priced at RM60 a month.

Two types of phones were offered: the Samsung A14 5G and the Honor 90 Lite 5G.

Fahmi, who was at the MoU signing between CelcomDigi and Virnect, a South Korean tech company that designs and builds XR (extended reality) platforms for industries and organisations, said such partnerships can improve the 5G adoption rate.

He said the use of this technology will transform the teaching methods at universities into experiential learning, especially in the fields of healthcare, oil and gas engineering, robotics, and cybersecurity.

Last month, Fahmi said his ministry would also be meeting local mobile network operators (MNOs) to address reports on telcos imposing extra charges for 5G subscriptions.

Some telcos are reportedly charging between RM3 and RM20 more for 5G access.

Currently using the router from TM when I upgraded to SWU3.0 - DLink AX3000 Wifi 6 router.

When I’m in the same room as my router or using Ethernet, I’m getting 500Mbps download speed. But when in another room, the speed drops to 100Mbps - even though it’s only 3 metres away from the router. Seems like having 1 wall significantly drop the speed. My entire condo is only 800sqft.

Is this an issue with the DLink router (should I buy a better one?) or is this something that TM can fix?
*
Wifi?
Duh. Known issue with wireless transmission getting through wall, concrete, metal, glass. Law of physics. The higher the Ghz, the less powerful the penetration.

Cement contains iron anyway.
Mirrors are commonly made from glass+silver/+aluminium.
Condo walls probably have reinforcement bars, compounding the issue.

Bestest solution; wire up.
Better solution; use mesh.
Hampeh-est solution; repeater.
just to get around or through that wall.

the moment you mentioned "sitting next to router"... you tested using wifi, is it?

nobody testing using cable will be so location-aware.

Bruh you can’t set the gigabit router to bridge mode? What a downgrade from the current tm setup 😭😭 makes me not want to upgrade. I can’t run my udm se in access point mode, and double Nat reduces the speeds so much especially with a pppoe connection 😒😒😒😒

QUOTE(yenchenje @ Sep 10 2023, 10:41 PM)
From what I could test in a short time just now, nope, none of the settings can clearly set the modem to bridge mode for GPON, unless someone here with 1Gbps/2Gbps have any prior experience? Except for Ultraman I guess :’)
*
What's the difference?

GPON Router:
β€’ itself become a router
β€’ everything that you expect a router to be like
β€’ Maximum 2 VoIP config on RJ11 port1 and port2
β€’ Maximum flexibility with what you want to do; e.g. you don't want to PPPoE then send the VLAN (you want tagged or you want untagged biggrin.gif ) downstream through any LAN port you want, or (un)set unifitv VLAN on port1 (eh, UPB on its own vlan is quicker and awesome pic without delay!), on use port2 to bridge VoIP VLAN to a VoIP phone, port forwarding, DMZ, DDNS, IPv6, NTP, DNS relay, ....

RG Router:
While I didn't play with this mode before,
β€’ the wizard offers the same config like GPON Router
β€’ minus the VoIP configuration for 2 RJ11 ports.
β€’ VoIP VLAN (not configuration) seems like hardcoded to downstream down LAN port3, I guess to a downstream VoIP phone.

GPON Bridge
β€’ It only offers VOIP configuration for 2 RJ11 ports
β€’ All other VLANs will be sent through downstream ports
β€’ Once using this mode, the ONR turns into dumb ONU, with no option to login to reconfigure it in future (i cannot even fogure out what is the "ONU's" own IP, so cannot even attempt to login)

speedtest I got 500mbps. But when I use , or download it dont get 500mbps. Only 200-300mbps
*
(1) Your local internet exchange is shared between users. The congestion when you speedtest-ed maybe lower than when you are downloading.

(2) The "weather" and network conditions when you speedtest-ed and when you are downloading are not necessarily the same.

(3) The IP network path between your testing device and speedtest server is NOT the same IP network path taken between your downloading device and your download server. You cannot expect the same experience of driving from Johor Bahru to Arau and of driving from Johor Bahru to Kota Bharu, eventhough both passes through Kuala Lumpur.

(4) What you should use speedtest for, is to test what is the maximum capability of network connection between your testing device and your ISP. Can it reach your subscribed speed at all in the first place? For example, assuming you are using ethernet cable, if at any time and against multiple speedtest servers, you can only get maxed 400Mbps of a 500Mbps subscription, then you already determine that either your testing device is crap or router is crap or your fibre line is crap.

But since you already proven that you are able to get 500Mbps, even if only just once, that means there is already no issue between your test device to your router to your ISP and to your speedtest server (unless wear and tear over time).

Apart from the confidence that the path up to ISP is "500Mbps-rated", everything else are variables that impact your download speed.
