Confinement lady vs confinment centre

Good Confinenment lady is hard to find and verify, hard to get one with multiple reliable reviews

Confinment centres reviews can easily be found online for u to make decision

Confinemnent lady also teaches alot of wrong things or unhygienic practises to new moms without the new mom knowing it like using a handkerchief to clean baby mouth, which can cause bacteria infection or thrush in baby mouth affecting mom nipple if she is breastfeeding

Confinement lady also practise a lot of superstition and old wives tale like if a baby cannot be consoled, hv to pray to ancestors. If a baby sleep morning and awake at night, need to turn the baby baju upside down

Confinment lady price is negotiable but they can ditch u last min claiming all sorts of things and never refund deposit, so u left in a lurch last min to find another lady or centre which can cater for u when u r due. Even if u can find a centre at the last min, u might be forced to take a not so good centre cos good ones are normally full and needs booking in advance.

People are misled into thinking confinment lady are cheaper than centres, actually thye work out to cost the same - Centre is about rm14k all including herbs and 5 meals a day and nurses who take care of the baby (bathe change diapers feeding) , and help mommy with massage and breast feeding so mommy focus on herself healing and resting for 28 days, making mommy fully rejuvenated after 28 days to take care of baby herself after 28 days

Confinement lady may cost rm8k but add in herbs and raw food and electricity, gas water, it can go up to rm12k to 14k. Not to mention Confinenment lady spend a long time in kitchen to cook only 3 meals a day, followed by cleaning and washing dishes, leaving the new mommy alone with baby, and the new mom will hv no rest and forced to take care of baby (cleaning and changing diapers, soothing baby, washing her own breast pump which requires walking around and standing up for a new mommy who just had c sec operation ) when confinement lady is doing the cooking and cleaning

on top of that, new mom has no guidance on proper bf techniques and maybe misled by confinemnet lady to use formula milk instead of bf because it's easier for Confinenment lady to feed or over feed baby with formula milk so the baby willl sleep longer and cry less, not to mention the confinemnet lady has more work to do if mommy is bf like washing breast pump and milk bottles and thawing breast milk in the mid of night

On top of that, somone in the house needs to go out and buy groceries and vegetables every week according to what the confinemnet lady wants to cook for the new mom

At centres, if u forgot to buy stuff that baby or new mom need, the centre can buy for u. If at home, u hv to buy online and wait for a few days for delivery, some things just can't wait nipple shields and right flange size.

At centres, they provide value added service like weekly visit by paed / lactation consultant and tcm doc. Thye check on both baby and mom wellbeing. The tcm doc will fine tune the food and soup according to the mommy current condition ie too much trapped wind will require more of certain food and less of some other food.

They also provide malay urut services with additional cost. The place is big enough to hv a place to hv a comfortable massage session for mommies to hv massage with peace of mind as nurses are taking care of the babies while u get massaged. Sometimes at home, the CL is cooking and the massage session is interrupted by crying baby

At confinement centre, the centre has everything it needs to provide for the new mommy. But if at home, u hv to spend monies buying things u need to use for only that 1 mth of confinement period like a very big pot to boil soup or herb to shower, or a big pail to store herbal shower water

Also at confinement centre, alot of things are provided for such as diapers and newborn baju. So u save on newborn diapers for 1 mth and newborn baju. By the time u r discharged, baby would hv gained weight and move on to diaper size S and bigger bajus, so u save on diapers for 1 mth and extra small bajus for baby

Centre are generally cleaner than home as they regularly sanitise the place. So less likelihood of illness or infection on the baby which is very fragile in their first mth. Placenta will drop off by the time u leave the centre, so that's one less worry for mommy as placenta care is no longer a worry once she returns home.

Already 2022 with the covid pandemic and internet age, still believe in old wives tales?

better read this first
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2630331/all

All those old aunties always like to downplay their cough and sickness one, not realising they can spread their infection to others.

When they are coughing/sneezing always like to blame the weather and the food, heaty food, heaty weather la...worst, youngsters also believe them.
