I have been using 5G in HK, it is too power hungry, battery size of SE is too small to have a good experience with 5G

one thing could be due to the coverage of 5G also.

if it is weak, it may keep on switching between 5G and 4G that will eat up more battery life.

Might be a good buy for someone like me who is buying my first iphone? I just want to get into the ecosystem and get my stuffs over from android.

Every mobile phones provides 5G features... but local M'sia still delaying this deployment.

why not try looking at second hand iphone (like 11 or 12). im not sure the price but just thinking maybe can compare and weight the best value out of it.

Yes. The first time I tried iOS was getting the SE 2020. Used for 1.5 years and now using 13 mini

But the battery size is the concern.

I do think the A15 would be more efficient on the battery. I would prefer to get a brand new unit rather than used unit.


This is what I have in mind. Use the SE as a starting point and then move on to higher tier later. Maybe after iphone gets usbc haha.

I switched my ecosystem to Apple since 2020. I like the form factor of iPhone SE, but the phone battery kinda disappointed. Unless you are light usage user, else you might need to charge it twice a day.

If u don’t mind without 5G , I feel the 11 would be a better buy.
Unless u like the small form factor of the SE.

The Touch Id feature should be a major selling point for this phone, especially since we are still wearing masks.

This is a good question, I have an XR which I am supposed to pass to my dad but I wonder if I should get the SE instead for him.

My mum is using my old iPhone 6S so this new SE is a logical upgrade for her when the time comes, but for now the 6S is still crushing it. Running iOS 15.3.1 without glitches and only minor lags when running too many apps. Then again, my mum’s usage is just calls, texts, YouTube, WhatsApp and browsing the Photo gallery

I think the SE caters to a very niche group of users… younger kids, older parents and probably as a second or backup phone. Pretty sure it’s not a good option for power users or those clocking more than 4 hours SOT on a daily basis…

yes, this is why iphone is a good. especially recent years of iphones, they are totally over powered which the performance is more than sufficient to last even up to more than 5 years easily. my iphone 6 plus is still working for my secondary for calls, sms or whatsapp, youtube etc.. of course not for gaming.

yeah. SE can still be good choice since the starting price is still lower for those who do not want to fork out more $$ for more flagship iphone or iphone pro.

If he is using for media consumption, I think SE screen too small for elderly.

depends if the elderly wanna use big size, cause everyone has different preferences. my father in law was using 5s until 2020 i bought the se for him, coming from 5s form factor the se is big for him. cannot imagine if i want to change to a new one in future (if se and mini series) discontinue and 6.1 is the mainstream size sure he will complain again

why not just 13 mini? bigger screen but still consider small form factor.
i switch from android to 13 mini too (still using android as 2nd phone)

smaller screen if you don't mind. others considered upgrade.

Yup, my mum tried my old 7 Plus and said it was too big for her too, she prefers the 6S.. For what she does (or rather not do) on the phone it's a bit too expensive to buy her a 12 or 13 Mini

Either that, you can go for 2nd hand iPhone SE 2020 128GB that cost about RM1100 max (with change of battery).

But iPhone SE 2022 is a good entry point for first time user or those on budget to get into Apple Ecosystem.

Well you only get 64GB with that 12 mini. You get 256GB with the SE 2022 at RM2799

Still comes with lighting port.

I am waiting for the day iPhones use usb-c.

Plan go for the 2020 if the 2022 don't have a good battery capacity.

Also wonder if I constantly snap in the battery casing to se 2020, will it damage or deteriorate the battery ?
I know the down side also its much heavier overall

To be fair, it’s only a good choice for those who absolutely need to stay in the Apple ecosystem, otherwise you can get a midrange Android phone that is equally capable and much, much better hardware specs for RM1.5k or so. Don’t talk about longevity or software updates though!

Haha, yes, the additional 1GB RAM compared to the iPhone 6 really makes the difference feel like night and day. Can’t believe a 2015 phone is still doing it in 2022, hahaha….

Could be sooner than we think due to EU regulations but Apple is stubborn, they will persist with lightning for as long as they can I’m sure…

Actually I’m a bit reluctant to recommend an Android user to start his Apple experience with the SE particularly if his usage is heavy and is used to a 4000mAh battery or larger in the Android ecosystem. I’d say go for the 13 if budget permits. Otherwise, few months later, that fella will curse Apple and iPhones and go back to Android

I only see the A15 chip as the advantage of the SE over the 11 to be honest, unless you really need 5G…

i will still recommend cheap iphone over similar price android phone still. the user experience is totally at diferent grade no matter how much extra features the low end or mid range android phone is. haha.

Midrange Androids have come a long way actually - the user experience is not bad these days. Anyways, it’s just a different experience to iOS so can’t really compare that way

For me, I would actually buy a 2nd hand iPhone SE 2020, and changed the original battery at Switch/machine for RM210... than buying a new RM1000 android.

I still have the 1st gen iphone se (iphone 5/5s design). that time i am switching my iphone 4s, but i did not manage to get the iphone 5s first batch. then out of my mind, i went to buy the samseng note 3 which it was the greatest mistake i had ever made on a mobile phone purchase. so i bought the se when it was out that time just to make up this mistake.

Different users, different needs and desires I guess. Two glaring omissions from the SE 2020 were a bigger battery and night mode on the camera. Have to wait and see if the 2022 SE addresses that.

Patiently waiting review and maybe go try it out myself.
My options either

SE 2022, get a battery case?
SE 2020 , need change battery maybe and battery case?

Last resort pixel 5 second hand haha

don't forget iPhone 12 mini 128GB RM3011 now.

Yup this is actually a better choice than iPhone 11 or iPhone se 2022.

Let's hope Apple will slash this model price to RM2599 after they phase out iPhone 11 this coming september.

But something tells me Apple will stop selling iPhone mini 12, and retain iPhone 12 at RM2899

Just sharing my experience for those “who wanna TRY” apple ecosystem by getting the iPhone SE. please dont get it to try lol… its gonna be a big disappointment.

If u gonna spend rm2k for a device to try an ecosystem… get the basic IPhone 12 new or used.

Your phone is the device you use daily.. staring at the screen, the battery daily charging.. the speed and responsiveness of the unit u holding day in day out. iPhone SE is IMO, is most suited for secondary or even primary school kids… cheapest entry lvl iPhone…

No point trying a rm2k phone which will causes u frustration after just 5 days. Thats bad experience.

Target delivery date is 31 March for iPhone SE 2022.

for me I got my huawei p30 which I been using since 2 years ago & been using MacBook, mac mini and iPad for few years. But never got an iPhone before. So I decided to buy 1 without burst the budget.
I'm going to use as call/ text with light surfing. Then use huawei p30 as heavy use like waze, game, etc. May be I will go and change battery for this phone as I notice that it start to degraded.

Ordered mine on 27 March during lazada BD with free gift apple earpod using lightning (RM99). Now already reached last sorting center near my place. Hopefully will get it by today

Now phone is faster than my glass screen protector and casing which ordered a.week ago. slow due to covid lockdown at china.

well, might as well just get a fast charge power bank, the adata power bank does it jobs well and it is just about rm70++.

i suggest go for the 64gb/128gb SE2022 and subscribe to icloud+ for rm3.99/month. 5gb free icloud is not sufficient even for a normal backup

not a fan of battery case. im using the wallet case type as i prefer to walk out the house with just a phone and car keys.

icloud free is 5gb limit, and seriously dont backup to icloud as it will always come out error saying out of icloud capacity.
u can however, selective app to backup to icloud such as whatsapp.

Assuming battery in good condition, think it's more to light usage as you said, else would be insecure without a power bank, battery case or secondary phone haha.

not all the time carry powerbank. battery case is snap to phone all the time. so wont forget or need to bring powerbank (as it is powerbank in nature)

the cc put at the back wont damage? the phone always hot when charging or use? It look cool but don't think in long run cc will last long

for cloud storage, I think google cloud offer best deal

battery case for iphone se 2022 arrived. Not so heavy. the height is almost same and slight higher a bit from my huawei p30 with case. additional 10000mah is good.
