YES.

Suggesting to alter the title to "Cheapest data plan for WhatsApp". TnG doesn't use much data. WhatsApp is more critical to download medias and voice/vix calls... Me's recommendations are (by hierarchy) : 1) UMobile PRE-paid U25 @ RM20/m with 30GB/m. Comes with unlimited calls if WhatsApp call not responsive. 2) TuneTalk Call 20 @ RM20/m. then get tunetalk 200 per year less headache. drawback is no call quota. second choice yoodoo full custom can adjust on the go third choice is unifi. good for general use. make sure your phone suport else cant use. |

TnG (using showing QR code / pay function) and MySJ does not require data connection actually
make sure you have enough $$ before give it I would suggest those hotlink 365 data would be good for your parents as long as they won't surf fb/tiktok/youtube using data outside |

All e-Wallets using QR Code or Bar Code generator MUST connect to their server. Hence, mobile data/Wi-Fi is compulsory.
As for MySJ, it actually will store the scanned QR code in the "cache". So, no mobile data/Wi-Fi is required. But, when the device is "online", the MySJ will connect to its server to off-load the cache and sync to the "MySJ Trace" server to update our "infection" status.  So, MySJ is actually using mobile data/Wi-Fi "as and when needed". That's why during QR scanning, the MySJ does not use mobile data. This offline "cache" concept is also being used in Samsung Pay. Unifi Mobile's Mysejahtera data usage is a free-bypass from charges. And several commonly used Internet Banking sites also bypassed. Unfortunately I don't think TnG is bypassed.
