i have a client sold her business in KL for 200k then move to sibu to operate the same shop.

her business profit is better in Sibu even revenue is not as high as KL.
and she could save more in Sibu.

Quality of life, which city better? Which city is more 'global'?

i prefer kk. more things to do. islands, mountains, imago mall like a mini midvalley, direct flight for holiday to japang, korea, definitely better food (some cant even find in kl)
But....
a bit more expensive than kch. if you're used to kl then its not shocking.
a bit less safe. I remember walking into centrepoint a few years back and feeling like i could get robbed at every corner (although nothing happened). fights in centrepoint is not unheard of. some kampung air areas even polis dun go in. its fine if you avoid a few places.
And....
everything moves at a snails pace. line up in Giant also dem slow compared to kl.
But generally ppl are friendly.

global? bro, i drove around at night in kk and wondered why its so dark, not like in kl you can a lot of times drive without lights. Just a stark contrast that i noticed.
i'd say kk is closer to malacca than to penang.
when i first went there to work in the 90s we took a drive in town on the first day. after 15mins, huh? thats it?
now of course its bigger but i believe subang+usj is bigger than kk.

You wanna move anywhere, better visit one or 2 weeks and look see first.

how long can oil and timber last? petronas says in. 2019 only last 10 years. Assuming a more conservative estimate i give 15-20 years. Probably retiring there is ok but state govt probably is cash-strapped to run public services , infrastructure and road maintenance

Kuching (Cat) City got VivaCity Megamall, The Boulevard, The Spring, AEON Kuching Central, and Plaza Merdeka. All huge mall complexes that can rival malls in major cities.

Kuching is like Penang where the Chinese community still hold majority of its economic strength. Most of the supermarkets and shops you go to many signs in Chinese where many of its population attended SJKC.
These are the last remaining stronghold of Chinese populated cities in Malaysia.

You do realized all these are secondary domestic business activities spurred by primary industry of oil and gas. Penang has MNCs doing assembly manufacturing. You need hard currency earnings to pay for import of essential goods and services.

Why? We are all Malaysians. What permit? Same country.

They don't teach real history in school. Malaysia is a Federation composing of 3 separate area/nation. Formed under the Malaysia Agreement 1963. Malaya (composing of 11 states) has been in existence since 1957. Sabah and Sarawak got their independence in 1963. All 3 independent area/nation came together to form Malaysia in 1963.

That's why SS has their own immigration control (that's why they kick Malayan racists out of their territory), have their own cabinet ministers etc. That's why you Malayan need work permit to work there. Same like you need work permit to work in other countries.

The cost of lottery tickets is 10% higher in Sarawak and 15% higher in Sabah due to state sales taxes.

not as much food choices
and whatever the same food sold in KL, u add a few more RM...that's the price in sabah

it's very hard to find anything below RM10 here in sabah
and it's certainly harder to find promo compared to KL where promos are everywhere

Not sure about the price of nasi lemak because I rarely eat it sweat.gif

I'm only familiar with the E-mart at Batu Kawa because of the bowling alleys. Other than that, yes, this is an accurate description of Kuching: Chill and laid back place but doesn't have that many places for entertainment. Good place to stay once you've retired.

Dun need talk so much.
East Malaysia is like a republic.  No visa no stay. Unless you marry local.
I once heard of a guy working in Bintulu 20yrs. The day he retired he had 3 months tourist visa to leave sarawak.

Quality, choice of food, entertainment,  better mall---> kk
Security, cheaper cost of living, cleaner town---> kuching

Dun bother with other towns, you'll be bored till your mother doesnt recognize you.
My choice would be kk.

Kuching life way better than KK. More Chinese friendly, more land, cheaper cost of living, fresher air, so much more things to do.

QUOTE(petpenyubobo @ Mar 5 2022, 10:35 PM)
The climate and air in Kuching is quite nice compared to many Malaysian cities. Clean and not too hot where it is located at the southern end of Sarawak state.

Closer to Indonesia's upcoming new capital city Nusantara too

I tot haze is a yearly problem in Sarawak due to burning in Kalimantan. Is it very often? Does Sarawak has nice coastal towns with beautiful beaches n cheap seafood?
