Hi guys,

Seeking for opinion. Expecting my first kid and planning to hire a nanny (or a maid) to help out.

Wondering if I should hire just a nanny, or a maid (or both). Thinking of getting the nanny to take care of the kid, plus cook. If can clean, even better tongue.gif

Hopefully someone that has hired a nanny or a maid or both here could share your experiences!

1. How did you guys came across your nanny?

2. How much are you guys paying her?

3. What's the job scope - can she cook (plus clean) besides taking care of the kid?

4. Can foreign maids be nannies as well, or this seldom happens?

Thanks!

Better to get maid whose job scope is wider and can do more variety of work, cost is the same

Nannies are expensive and work 8 to 6 daily only

You will appreciate somone who cooks cleans do laundry around the house while you can focus on yourself and baby

Only problem is, new maid needs extra care cos you need to monitor for a few months before concluding if she is reliable or not

i guess u can afford to hire a nanny/maid, thats why u asked.

cant give much input here. just want to say, only hire them if u really dont have any other choice.

the best is to take care of the child urself.
if not, then reliable family members.
if not then daycare.
if not then last choice is maid/nanny.

Yes you're right. If possible of course we'd want the extra help on most aspects if not all!

But taking care of the baby would be top priority in the list though, hence I think nanny fits the bill more.

Also, heard a lot of nasty maid runaway stories after agent fees so was trying to see how can I save myself from the trouble... yet find someone to help out.

I wish to grow alongside of my kid for sure. But having a nanny means extra pair of hands that we all need. Plus, I yearn for home cook, so finally drool.gif

hmm.gif what made you think I'm trying to go through shady methods?

Just wanted to know the market price and the ways to get reliable help. If there's recommendations on good maid agencies etc, I'll be happy.

Not sure where the conversation is going towards but thank you nonetheless..

it was just an advice.
when teachers at school said, "Dont hit other people" ," Dont steal" doesnt mean u already hit someone or steal something.
its an advice.

nowadays a lot of agents.
if while going thru these agents, they promise you too good to be true stories, then's something wrong.
im telling you to be careful, im not accusing you of being shady.

why with all the negative thinking?

Might not be the same as your request but I can share mine. I send my baby over to Nanny's home.

1. How did you guys came across your nanny?
MIL's friend

2. How much are you guys paying her?
RM1200 1 on 1

3. What's the job scope - can she cook (plus clean) besides taking care of the kid?
Take care of baby only. Working days. 7AM-7:30PM

4. Can foreign maids be nannies as well, or this seldom happens
not sure

Note: just be prepared, the nanny's way of taking care of baby might be diff with us...and sometimes it's hard to say them because they may not be happy. Because I'm a new mother so I was very stressed initially, but afterwards ok edi.

There's FB group (Chinese words) that is all about mothers/confinement/ nannies, last saw the price for nanny who comes over to home is around RM4000. Stay in nannies are higher.

Ah, after rereading now I see what you mean. TQ for explaining the context, sorry for misunderstanding.

That was the whole point of this thread, just wanted more information before I decide to go with agencies.

From what I heard, runaway maids are rampant because of a shortage of maids. Good ones, retained with their employers while bad apples are in the market.

At least lately MY borders are opened up again. New influx of maids.

Used to have maid last time many years ago. No good feedback. Just know that end up my house have to install cctv and install lock on all the cabinets. Yet still things in house went missing.

I also just got a nanny same price and 1-to-1. But less hour. Start next month. Hopefully all goes well. I’m new mom also. So fully understand ur feeling. Yeah VERY AGREE TO NOT comment about nanny’s method of taking care of baby. Didnt know aunty so sensitive nowadays, accidentally commented on my MIL (only on baby sleeping position) after coming back from CC. Now our relationship changed 180deg d.

Need to adjust own mindset, don’t be monster parent. As long as kid can eat sleep grow during infant and toddler stage and don’t cause u any trouble, good enough. Even if with maid, hubby, own mom, daycare or whoever also same. Don’t break good relationship coz of small issues. Ur kid won’t remember/appreciate that u once so overly-cared for him/her until ur relationship with others is broken. U can care later after fetching ur kid home.
