I don't mind if BM is a must pass subject. It's the national language after all. Whether it's useful or not is irrelevant. But there are two main problems with the current implementation.

Students from SK are not subjected to this proficiency test. Why? By excluding them, it makes it discriminatory.

The second issue is we could've curbed this problem earlier on. If we see a child is having problems with BM say in Year 3, we could intervene much earlier and not wait until they graduate from Year 6.

Ok then Japanese national language is nihongo, China national language is Mandarin. So shouldn't they speak English instead of their national language? Why English must be national language of a country where the population not a native speaker of that language?

If you want to argue based on time, then before British came to Semenanjung, people there use English issit?

You are right that BM is basic language and not hard to learn.
The question is very need put so much effort to learn something with minimum value in future life. Just learn up to normal daily communication enough.

Worse see a lot Malay degrade the language to rempit level while asking other to mengagungkannya. 😅

Because this is Malaysia? Language is an identity to all Malaysians, doesn't matter what race you are, so I don't think it is too much to master our national language, I've seen too many Chinese from SJK who couldn't speak proper Malay, which is sad la. I'm from SJK btw.
