I had issue with my Sony TV where the assistant suddenly stopped working, what I did was go into the app manager and cleared the data and uninstalled updates for the Google app. Then when you next launch assistant it will ask you to set it up like new and it worked after that.

I'd suggest you check if there are any Android TV updates first and apply that before giving the above a try.

Also if you have voice recognition turned on try talking to it and see if anything happens, maybe there's some issue with the remote/button.

Updated, but still cannot use.

Even use arrow key (not pressing the google assistant button) to click the screen on "speak icon" on search menu, it is not responding to any sound.
So this removes the possibility remote control button is faulty.

Try to on and off and on back the google assistant on the android setting page, the final setup page comes out something is wrong when finalising.

or google assistance is not supported yet on current android tv version?

Really no clue now.

Go to the remote control option or bluetooth section, no remote control is paired. But I can use the remote control perfectly, just the google assistance.

Then try to setup to pair the handphone for bluetooth pairing, it can pair, and I can use handphone to as remote control to control the button and on and off.

How to use the paired handphone as google assistance?

Can't find much info in order to setup or use the tv android system.

The remote works for other things because the normal features all run on IR I believe, but the smart features like voice recognition require bluetooth connection.

Does your TV have a microphone or is it only in the remote? My TV has microphone but by default it had the physical button turning it off, have to push it into the 'ON' position before the mic worked.

My TV is actually on the newest version where they rebranded it to 'Google TV' instead of Android TV, but it should work on even older versions also.

Can you try downloading the 'Android TV remote control' app (make sure its the one developed by Google LLC) and try to pair that one and use the voice option in there?

Does the TV show up in your Google Home app? You can use any device to control other devices if they show up in Google home, for instance I can tell my phone "OK Google, turn on my TV" and it works. You don't really need to setup anything for this from what I remember but I might be mistaken, you can do a google search and see how to add devices to your google home, I found this but it might not be the latest - https://support.google.com/googlenest/answe...tform%3DAndroid

Iinm, your remote has microphone so it will need to connect/pair in bluetooth mode to send voice command. If Bluetooth fail to connect then IR will work only with limited keys especially to navigate.

What model is your TV. Check the manual on how to pair in Bluetooth mode.
Maybe can try follow this video for Sharp TV but before doing that do cold boot and access the remote & accessories section before pairing so that you can monitor if the TV detects the remote.
Refer: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=E9pv73B6S90

If still unsuccessful then try the remote app as suggested by RViN but the remote app that was mentioned in the post has stop working.
Now there is new Google remote feature and make sure all apps on your TV are up to date.

The new remote feature is available in the following apps:
1. Google TV(Link: Android)
a. Access from Quick Settings remote tile - https://m.imgur.com/a/OkfLvwM
b On app home page - https://pictr.com/images/2022/02/28/BAsfVV.png

2. Google Home(Link: Android, iPhone/iPad)
a. Access from device page - https://pictr.com/images/2022/02/28/BAsbEv.png

Afaik, it is not possible on Android TV unless manufacturer add the feature to the device to use external microphone which i don't think they are allowed to do.

Misread handphone as headphone..🤦‍♂️

Yes, it is possible to use phone mic for Google Assistant with the app remote feature as mentioned above via WiFi or Bluetooth(only with Google TV app and access the remote feature from Quick Settings remote tile).
Make sure to give location permission for Bluetooth pairing and allow microphone access for voice search.

Thank you for all the replies.

Managed to solve it.
Apparently, although remote control is working out of box (guess it works based on IR), the remote is not paired via bluetooth out of box.

Need to hold 2 button "channel up" together with "cursor up" for 10 seconds then remote section showed up the remote control is paired.
Thank you for the youtube link, really helpful. thumbup.gif

By then google assistance can work already.
The remote come with mic on top of it, whereby got several tiny holes.

There must be a switch in the settings that needs to be turned on. Smart TVs are remarkable because of all these intelligent features, but sometimes, it's challenging to understand how to use them. When I bought my Smart TV from LG, I also needed help understanding its features. Spoiler Alert! I didn't. But I found an option. From the App Store, I downloaded a universal TV remote app. It's an app that allows me to control my TV from my phone. Basically, I have a digital remote on my phone with all the controls I need, which is very easy to use. This can be an alternative solution to your problem.
