Different doesn't mean it is not real.
You're talking as if only pork ramen is real. Sure, it's not as good but there are some pretty decent chicken ramen.

No need to be such a food snob.

Needs updating. Bankara is non-halal, and Menya Hanabi primarily serve udon. If you want udon, then go to Menya Hanabi. Ippudo isn't all that great imo, tried a few times, always left underwhelmed paying for it. Bankara is better than Ippudo, plus slightly lower price point.

I will prefer Bankara.

Cannot take regularly, 1 time consumption, easily going to gain 2~3 kg on next day.

My review (taste is subjective, what is good for me might not be good for you):

1. Bankara Ramen: Oily, but doesn't taste as good as others in the list. 5/10
2. Ramen Bar Shi Shi Do: One of the best ramen restaurant in PJ, their main branch at The School, Jaya One which is next door, offer more variety of ramen. 9/10
3. Bari-Uma Ramen: Tried once, never thought of going back for more. 6/10
4. Menya Mushashi: The only outlet inside Isetan 1 Utama, which is going for closure soon, please go and try this one first! 7/10
5. Ippudo: Chain ramen restaurant, taste not as good as others. 5/10
6. Chiba Ramen: The address on the FB page is wrong, it's actually at Taman Cheras, provides affordable ramen for customers. 7/10
7. Torazou Ramen: I like the squid ink ramen, one of a kind ramen restaurant. 7/10
8. Super Ramen: More to fusion ramen than traditional, taste is so so for me, some may like it, but not me. 6/10
9. Menya Hanabi: Famous for maze-soba actually, I think only they serve this kind of food in klang valley, ramen I've not tried before.
10. Hokkaido Raman Santouka: Pork cheek ramen is good. 8/10

Wait, isnt no.2 closed already? They moved somewhere else IIRC.

And for no.9, is it the dry ramen type, where you add rice at the end?

Menya Shi Shi Do just moved to another building "The Gasket Alley", just outside of Jaya One walking distance, now called Ramen Bar Shi Shi Do

Not sure if its the exact same ramen recipe, but previously I actually hated the ramen in Jaya One, now new place seems okay

+1 to Menya Musashi, abit hesitant to recommend because nanti long queue pulak bila nak makan sweat.gif
btw I believe they will be moving to the 1Utama new block soon since Isetan will be closing

Menya Shi Shi Do closed down already, not sure where they will move to. For now they only have Ramen Bar Shi Shi Do

Maze soba is not ramen, it's a completely different dish. Yes you can request for a little bit of rice at the end.

I think Mazemen is the dry ramen you're looking for.

Sei-rockya takes the top spot for halal ramen

Taste wise very similar like at Japan.
But the feeling is different when eating ramen during the winter vs Malaysia climate

Ramen taste is really based on individual preferences.
You will get different taste at different regions like Hokkaido, Fukuoka, Osaka, Kyoto, Tokyo.

Think I eaten once before - it's located in Sri Petaling. You order ramen, but dry version - once you finish the noodles. you ask for white rice to eat with the balance of the items inside the bowl. Believe it's called Menya Hanabi also.

Tried...

ShiShiDo
bariUma
MenyaMushashi
Bankara
Ippudo

they never list
Kanbe

My top rate goes by

Kanbe, if u want variety and good soup. their noodles and soup cook to perfection

Ichikakuya, This is standard tonkotsu ramen. they have good pork broth, and with thich and thin noodle to select. pretty good noodles. and also good soup

Menya Shishido, now ramen bar shishido. classic is very good. but their creative variety like 2 mix soup or 3 mix. is good combo too

Bankara, I only go for their specialty, the pork slice and sesame pork broth. among every ramen, Bankara is the most expensive. One bowl for RM 50

Yes It's same place that I've tried it. It's actually maze soba, not sure why they have to include it in the ramen list.

self make 1 or real Japanese ramen? cause real ramen is needed to cook with pork bones + other non-halal ingredients
*
Pork bone broth is hakatta style aka tonkotsu. There's also tori paiton which is chicken broth based and shoyu/shio ramen that is fish and miso based. Then you go hokkaido you get seafood broth with butter and corn in your ramen.

But of course no ramen is complete without charsiew which has to be pork laugh.gif

SG 4/10? Where you go eat.... Sg ramen got plenty good ones, some even better than japan lel. Sanpoutei for niigata, gyoza osho for chuka paiton stamina style. Hakkata ikkousha for obviously hakkata style tonkotsu. The nice hokkaido one closed long ago at OG orchard but not a fan of hokkaido style. 100AM mall got tori king which is tori paiton style by keisuke group.

Malaysia 4/10 i agree. laugh.gif the best i can find is bankara.. but their noodles nowadays cannot make it anymore. Alot of lye water taste. Maybe changed supplier.

Used to be a budget pork ramen shop next to SS2 McD. RM10 per bowl when it first opened. I ate there at least twice every week because of the generous portions. Then it raised to RM12, after that RM15, and I completely stopped going when it raised to RM18. Then it chaplap.

8. Super Ramen: More to fusion ramen than traditional, taste is so so for me, some may like it, but not me. 6/10
9. Menya Hanabi: Famous for maze-soba actually, I think only they serve this kind of food in klang valley, ramen I've not tried before.

Tried...

ShiShiDo
bariUma
MenyaMushashi
Bankara
Ippudo

they never list
Kanbe

My top rate goes by

Kanbe, if u want variety and good soup. their noodles and soup cook to perfection

Ichikakuya, This is standard tonkotsu ramen. they have good pork broth, and with thich and thin noodle to select. pretty good noodles. and also good soup

Menya Shishido, now ramen bar shishido. classic is very good. but their creative variety like 2 mix soup or 3 mix. is good combo too

Bankara, I only go for their specialty, the pork slice and sesame pork broth. among every ramen, Bankara is the most expensive. One bowl for RM 50

Kanbe is ahit and miss depend on what u order , first time go want go back, second time go kena land mine don't want go back dy.

Sakura ( prawn base)
Yuzu ( Yuzu citrus base)

Among all these
Kohaku and Sakura is very good
Classic black is okok, white is very good
Yuzu is a big disappointment haha

I got a few more authentic hidden gem in SG which i go regularly but i will not share it brows.gif so authentic that the shop only have japanese menu with broken english and you need to speak japanese to order or start pointing the menu laugh.gif (altho 70% of them closed during pandemic and moved back to japan)

Been there 3 times

Tried their
Black ( black garlic oil)
White ( standard)
Kohaku ( bonito fish base)
Sakura ( prawn base)
Yuzu ( Yuzu citrus base)

Among all these
Kohaku and Sakura is very good
Classic black is okok, white is very good
Yuzu is a big disappointment haha
*
Yuzu is landmine. Online review alot say good but the taste just weird not in a good way. Tried other yuzu one don't taste weird as kanbe.
Kohaku is the best out of the 6 , but the white is okay okay je is it worth the 1h wait no for me..
If I go back will order kohaku je dry or wet both pun really good..

Please try
Kanbe.
And
Ichikakuya

Agree with Bari Uma, it's nothing special
*
The review based on the list given by TS

I've tried Kanbe, will definitely go back a few more times if my budget permits. It's in a competitive hotspot, so it has to be good to survive. 9/10
I've not tried Ichikakuya before, will give it a try.

Bari Uma need go for the signature Raman Baru sedap rest of Thier ramen is so so only. Same case with aori if u order the cheap version 33rm ( which most will do if first time there ) u will never go back ever again , the full version ( non lite ) 35rm is a killer.
Ichikakuya is actually quite good but business never pack one. Thier soup base is very light but rich in taste not heavy taste.

actually, japan got a lot of places is better then ichiran , but the problem is ichiran give u a weird feeling like drugging u must eat them , every time i go there eat is 3 bowl ald
*
I cannot finish ichiran. It's so loaded with MSG. No pork flavor at all... that's why mostly angmo and china tourist go only.

It's like saying maggi mee curry tastes better than real curry laksa lolol.... technically maggi mee is indeed more addictive but that is not the real flavour sweat.gif

Maybe cuz im hardcore foodie haha so im very strict with preferences. In fact i normally travel overseas holiday for the sole purpose to eat haha travel from one restaurant to the next instead of holiday spots.

Because sg ramen especially some exclusive spot which im not gonna share because the owner also kinda want to keep it exclusive.... I actually dont bother eating ramen in japan liao because taste the same or sometimes worse.

Normally i go japan i save my stomach and tastebud for wagyu, unagi($$$$ shops with live real japanese eel), fugu, omakase or my favourite is kaiseki ... should go try kikunoi.https://kikunoi.jp/kikunoiweb.en/top

Meanwhile ichiran... ewwww i will truly judge a person's taste/palate when they recommend ichiran......

like some people actually think the whole japan only has 1 type of ramen...which is what ichiran is offering laugh.gif

Tried shoyu, miso, seafood broth, chicken broth… still prefer hakata pork broth lol but surprisingly chicken broth is not bad at all. Nothing like what offered in Malaysia lol

Man I miss this tsukemen from a random stall nearby where we stay last time.

so far the ramen places i went in MY and my 2 cents

Kanbe - tried tsukemen kohaku soup extra gao, very nice the soup is exactly what tsukemen dipping soup should be.. THICC, but their hakata tonkotsu ramen nothing to shout. its good but not extraordinary. portions no play2 quite hefty
Shi Shi Do - good soup, nice thiccness and body. more toward hakata style with thinner noodles
Ippudo - nothing to shout out, delicious since controlled franchise flavor. abit stingy on the portions however. hakata style
Menya Musashi - used to be damn good, but as time goes they become inconsistent. sometimes damn good sometimes too watery. portion is gooding for price too, thicc noodles nyum
Menya Hanabi - one of the best mazesoba in MY so far (not that theres any other huge contender lol), abit pricey for portion size
Ramen Setagaya - went there tried their Jiro ramen version. taste good but i think almost get indigestion from the amount of oil, saltiness and garlic laugh.gif
Ichiyakuya 1mont kiara - soup is good but it isnt as gao as i expected eventho ordered strong. thicc noodles damn nice. iekei style sides with blanched horenso
Bankara - good, but their miso based soup can be too salty at times. good fallback to anytime if ramen craving tho
Bariuma - consistency issues also, last time their broth was nice and thicc like gravy now abit watery. good portions
Santouka - nothing to shout out, feels like Ippudo but with the sour plum on their ramen, miso soup based
Seirockya - nice chicken ramen, but lacking gao vs porkiness. not as filling as porky ramen
Mitsuyado Seimen - yuzu soup base damn good but too watery at times. love their thicc noodles

*
Ramen bar shi shi do, used to open 2nd branch in sri petaling, and i visit them weekly basis, almost I was there, I'm the only one in the restaurant, less than 1 year, Bungkus. Then i have to drive all the way to PJ and queue up, dammit !

Oh do tell. I hope it’s some small shop with nothing fancy just as in Japan where you can just walk in, eat your ramen & fuck off unlike here where some might feel like a fancy treat.

The quality is the same, the Japanese owner himself was occasionally there and cook himself at that time~ Too bad the renovation and location sux, and nobody knew about it.
