Any type of water only - Bad Tap water / mineral water + coolant - can use but not recommended Reverse osmosis water + coolant - can use but not recommended Distilled water / soft water + coolant - Good Factory premix coolant only - Best
What my regular mechanic told me. Only change engine oil n filter. Other kind of oil only need to top up if became less. This is what he said when I ask him to change my steering n brake oil
Change mechanic la. Steering and brake oil need to change after certain mileage although its quite long la. Even for coolant need to partially change it by drain the radiator at least (40-50% change).
You just need coolant that prevents rust. You don't need expensive antifreeze coolant. Our weather doesn't get cold enough for that.
Yeah thats why some say for our climate, even 15% coolant 85% water is enough.
I agree we dont need the antifreeze in coolant, but if too less coolant...im afraid the rust prevention additives (prevent coolant become too acidic + prevent rust) is too little. Like maybe few months use finish liao and rust starts forming. As each coolant manufacture didnt state it. So finally its still best if use premix only.
If your coolant is made with OAT, it doesn't turn acidic.
And the best way of knowing when to change the coolant, is indeed, the color change.
Sure this info still applies? Last time natural coolant color is green/orange. Now most coolant they got add dye, macam macam color ada. With the dye, coolant expired also still got the dye color
factory premixed coolant,.. how long change once ??
See what the coolant manufacture recommends. If cheap type 1 year once la easy. If OAT i think can tahan few years. Again see the coolant manufacturer recommendations
Hmmm. Not sure whether that’s really true or not. Scotty k says even hoat based Toyota gets acidic.
at 1:20, he checks the coolant pH with a test strip.
About the color change, my p2 coolant from factory is close to five years and still looks the same. Factory manual says to change every 2 years or 40 k( my is 120k). I’m not going to chance it and going to replace it soon. Who knows, maybe OAT based coolants trait a very long time to change color?
Btw TS, where do you dispose off your old coolant?
I do at my mechanic. The coolant he just drain out only...he no kutip also. Yeah i know its toxic.. The picture is i burp the coolant for another 20mins because he just do one fan cycle. Honda said need 2 fan cycles. Go in extra around almost 1L also..
I change the thermostat also when i do coolant drain every 5 years once as preventive maintenance. Using 50/50 premix. Selangor water too dirty , scared water pump bearing damaged from the accumulated dirt in water.
My thermostat super clean. No gunk in the super clean water so no worries
Reverse osmosis water + coolant - can use but not recommended
Distilled water / soft water + coolant - Good
Tis is so wrong . Some distilled water those use on car baterry refill might added acid . Need read the label on bottle carefully. RO water with coolant is the right way , RO water filter out 99% impurity in water.
Distilled water can use. What you are saying is battery water. Battery water some have added chemical.
RO water is not really recommended. Sure it has no impurities but its also a hard water and ionicly unstable. The atoms will try to stabilise itself by eating at your aluminium. Best water is soft water which we cannot buy. This water added sodium ions to stablize the water.
Thats why best is premix coolant at factory. They will use the correct type of water to dilute their coolant.

Becoz when u say distilled water in topic related to car , ppl will think distilled water = battery water . Most coolant got write on bottle mixture with purify water
No lar that is old knowledge. Nowadays some battery water is distilled water + chemical. They no update their knowledge not my fault le..
Old knowledge - battery water is 100% distilled water New knowledge - some battery water is distilled water + chemical.
