Hi everyone, i don't know where to start, so any suggestion/advise would be welcomed.

WHAT HAPPENED;
I was using Maxis Prepaid sim(meaning i just top up whenever needed). I use Data sometimes and rarely for call.
Few days ago, my number was deactivated(i wasn't aware cause i thought i will have 3 months). But they deactivate 50 days from my last top up.

Now, at that time, i thought my phone have sim issue(the same kind of was being used by mom, had sim card issue).
So, i formatted the phone(deleting whatsapp, all the apps without deactivating or logging out) but only later i found that my number was actually deactivated.

So, i went to Maxis today to reactivate BUT, they said it will be Postpaid line after this; Rm30/month with 6 month contract,
which is absolute unneeded for me. I don't even make any calls. Burn Rm180.00 for nothing.

But the big issue is, i sort of needed it for my Whatsapp files(the groups, some starred message related jobs hunting).

_________________________________________
SO, THE MAIN QUESTION HERE,

If let say MAXIS sells my number to new customer, will they be able to see my Whatsapp message ? Would they be in the groups i been?

Isn't this sort of security breach/issue?

So, any advise on what can i do ?

Any way to retrieve whatsapp only OR , AT LEAST, delete/deactivate the account? - i don't have the number with me now.(deactivated dy).

Yes, if a new customer gets your new number and then activated Whatsapp with it within 120 days of you last using it, he/she/it will be able to see all of your Whatsapp contact and groups. This is why, nowadays, if you want to terminate a postpaid account at any telcos, the customer service representative will ask you whether you have terminated your Whatsapp/Telegram etc. accounts or not.

I'm a prepaid user that got terminated by them.

So, you are saying, the new user will be able to send message to contacts or groups, right?

Isn't that a security issue(people be able to act like me and get some data?)? cry.gif cry.gif

What can i do ?
*They never ask about my Whatsapp termination. They just terminate my number straightaway.

Yeah, i understand cause the back up is linked to my google account. Still, the fact they can be in groups that i have been, worries me a lot.

If it really important, just sign up for the postpaid account. No other choice. Else pray that new owner don't use the number for whatsapp.

recommended actions for the future

setup up 2FA with a PIN and backup email address, this will prevent anyone who acquires your recycled number from reactivating WhatsApp for period of time

recommended actions for now

refer to this page

https://faq.whatsapp.com/general/account-an...-stolen-phones/

email WhatsApp and request account deletion as per the steps under Lost / Stolen, this will take 30 days and will prevent anyone who acquires your recycled number from receiving your pending messages when they reactivate WhatsApp

They will be in the groups you are in but not able to retrieve your previous messages. All of this is only possible if someone bought the number and activate it within 120 days of termination. After 120 days inactivity your WhatsApp account will be deleted.
Idk how fast telcos recycle number nowadays, but if more than 4 months then nothing to worry about. If you still want that number for the purpose of retrieving WhatsApp, just get it as postpaid and change back to prepaid after contract end.

It's 45 days after an account unused.

I dont think you have to worry
Because Maxis will "remain" this number for you to wait if you wanna signup postpaid with them.

Thus it's more than 45 days for a new user to take your number.
You can call this number everyday to see if it reactive by a new user

I called Maxis yesterday.
According to their customer service, the new people won't be able to use my whatsapp account. It will be like "fresh new" baby he said. Which means, even if i buy, the something gonna happen? (i forgot to ask him this lol)
Or is it tied to IC. Also, i can still see my WA dp from my moms' account for now.

For purpose of whatsapp(thats what i have to decide by self, mentally recall some of imprtnt data lol). Other than that, buying is, entire waste of money.

Still, lets say if i buy, and retrieve all the data.
Then, under the same plan, can i just change into new number(from other telco plan that i wish to stop) ?
Do you know if such is impossible ?
