They will be in the groups you are in but not able to retrieve your previous messages. All of this is only possible if someone bought the number and activate it within 120 days of termination. After 120 days inactivity your WhatsApp account will be deleted. So, you are saying, the new user will be able to send message to contacts or groups, right?

Idk how fast telcos recycle number nowadays, but if more than 4 months then nothing to worry about. If you still want that number for the purpose of retrieving WhatsApp, just get it as postpaid and change back to prepaid after contract end.
