I have one old number which I use primarily for whatsapp. I dont need any data/voice on this, its just to keep active for banking OTP and whatsapp code if ever needed.

What is the best way to keep a number active like this in Malaysia?

p/s : Currently I already have the ONEXOX prepaid, the first 28months validity will expire soon, I can extend it here, but I want to move on as this carrier also have network connection issues, and SMS comes in delayed everything.

Please advise.

I'm using both Hotlink Pantas and Unifi Mobile. Hotlink is for my ipad so I'm not sure how fast is the SMS or calls are.
As for Unifi mobile, I'm using mainly to support customer via whatsapp and calls occasionally. SMS and connections are ok to me and it depends on coverage just like any other telco. And I bought reload of the 20GB LTE Pakej Remaja even thou I'm not a remaja.

My primary line is Celcom btw.

They do expire. I bought the RM30 365 days SIM Active period which gives me till next year. I still have to buy mobile internet reload for data.

1st Choice = P1 webe UniFi #BEBAS...

2nd Choice = Hotlink Panta* as shared below:

1st February = Reload RM10 = get 30 days SIM Validity. At the same time, buy 5GB/365 days LTE quota. Credit becum zero now.

2nd March = Reload RM10 = get 30 days SIM Validity. Continue using remaining 5GB LTE quota. Credit is now RM10.

2nd April = Reload RM10 = get 30 days SIM Validity. Continue using remaining 5GB LTE quota. Credit is now RM20.

2nd May = Reload RM10 = get 30 days SIM Validity. Continue using remaining 5GB LTE quota. Credit is now RM30.

After much consideration, I've decided to just extend the validity saving me the troubles that I may/will face when porting out.

Unifi mobile. But keep some credit inside to keep the line active every 90 days. A sms or a short call will do.

Can confirm this. Bank and Shopee SMS is slow for both my Celcom MEGA and ONEXOX line. Sometimes need to type *118# USSD to force trigger the message to come in. Doesn't work all the time tho.

Key in VALID < space > 6 and send to either 23388 or 22111
12 Months Validity Extension (RM25):
Key in VALID< space > 12 and send to either 23388 or 22111

Rm 3 will have your like active for 30 days.
Then another 30 days inactive before they cancel your lone

Actually Yoodo plan valid for 30 days and then another 60 days of grace periods, so it's totally 90 days for rm3

Can you give the link for rm10 plan. The cheapest that I can find is RM15

u subscribe to RM15 first... then after few months, the cheaper plan will appear in BoS.

let say topup RM10 valid 10day , then 60day inactive period .
when the 60day is near just buy 1day validation for RM1 in apps , then another 60day will start count again .
let say every 50day we buy 1 day validation , RM10 can buy 10times = 500day .

Yes, XOX for 28 + 8 months sim validity at say, RM40 total pay out.

Cheapest way to maintain is unifi mobile. Every chargeable usage within 90 days will extend validity for next 90 days. Chargeable usage like internet, sms and calls. I think they give 3gb data upon sim activation. Playing 1 YouTube video every 89 days should extend the validity for a good few years.

basically as long as you use it to do something that costs $ you will maintain the validity
so you can make 1 phone call or send 1 sms and your validity is maintained

in other words
make a call or send an sms every 90 days to keep valid

data usage also reset cycle..new sim got free 3gb....

freebie is carry forward... wont expired. until u drain it up... the 3gb is free until u used all up. wont expired.

free 3gb is once only after activation, not free 3gb monthly. Free 3gb has no time limit, stay there until use up 3gb.

same, as long is is unifi mobile prepaid. install the apps and register online. see bypos/ self collect at tm u selected.


unifi mobile is not like others prepaid use topup to maintain the validity. it will reset if u use data/call out/sms within 90days. before expired u will get sms/email.

oh so just send a sms for $0.10 every 90 days and u can keep the line forever!

Yes, that's roughly like paying RM2 a month for a year, not bad. Data balance doesn't expire so you can continue to slowly use it (smallest/minimum block to use is 500MB) if you need to.

I initially took up the 28 months validity promo (along with 10GB data) which will end Feb 2024 and currently still have 6GB data balance. So after that I just need to extend it for a year @ RM25 without needing to get any additional data, I only pay for more data when the balance eventually runs out as I slowly from time to time use it as needed.

I don't think it's too costly way to keep the number, only problem with OneXOX is the line isn't that great, but with no contract required just need to find the best post paid offer to jump out OneXOX for my other line.

i use the xox in my car's gps modem
now they gave another 36months extra upon succesfull registration (have to claim in the apps)
so in total it is 5 years validity
just need to topup/use it every 6 months
since i put it inside car gps so it's daily used
will topup rm30 (5gb data) or rm50 (10gb) later to buy season pass data and it will auto deduct 500mb monthly until all data from season pass depleted done.

I didn't see that 36 months extra, I will have to check again. But that's pretty nice for 5 years. So far I haven't top up at all since the first time I bought it and paid for the 10 GB plan. I turn off the auto deduct thing, I prefer to do it manually since I hardly use it. How much data does the car GPS use in a month? More than 500MB?

XOX is good for long duration.

I got total 38months for xox prepaid

for the gps data, used daily around 20-30mb depending on uptime (usually around 3-4hours uptime, meaning driving time)
the smallest plan is 500mb daily so that will have to do lah
