Hello folks
Need your input here...

Is it ok to remove 20a power socket and connect air contidioners directly to DB? I was told it’s optional but water heater must have a 20a power socket...

Thanks ya

what does DB stand for? I could only think of you bypassing a safety feature (Fuse) which a plug has, I've experienced 5 AC's in my life that the live burned and the AC gives out that plastic smell which could have been worse.

Well if you don't have it you won't be able to cut the power to the AC easily. U'd need to figure which breaker goes to it because all look the same. A switch would be so much easier.

Distribution Box in MY terms. CU consumer unit. Aka the breaker box.

I would use the socket instead of joining the wires.

Domestic switches max out at 15A for sockets. Industrial application is a different story. Mind to share how does your 20A socket looks like?

35A Isolator can be used but its a big box.
Starting current is big so not recommended to use socket. Unless using those CEE industrial commando plug

I connect both heater and AC directly to the DB. Sockets tend to melt overtime.

Heater must not be direct to DB apparently but AC is ok, yes?

I’m worried that if there’s power surge AC will get damaged if no 20a switch to protect... any fully qualified electrician to advise further?

It does expose your component to premature wear and tear, not just from lightning surge
Capacitors and electronics still have lifespan.

What's the concern with not having a 20A switch?
note: 20A switch is still "direct DB" connection
also note: removable plug-and-socket is NOT direct DB and is strongly not recommended.

It is rather inconvenient to on and off the aircon at the DB box.. need stool or ladder every time doh.gif

It is common.

The 20A S/S/O normally comes with 2 poles A/C switch for on/off & is drawing the power from direct 20A MCB breaker from the DB.

Water heater should have the same connection like AC without the face plate, the only different for the water heater point would be the requirement for 10mA RCCB at the outgoing of the 20A MCB as per ST's regulation.
