Hello everyone, I'm looking to buy a used car Peugeot 308 1.6 THP (T9) 2016 and above.
I've been looking for the past 2 months now and actively searching for the perfectly used condition.

My criteria as below:
Features
1. Apple CarPlay
2. 350ltr boot space
3. Able to fold down rear seats
4. Sexy exterior and evergreen
5. Moonroof/Sunroof
6. Keyless Start/Stop

Conditions
1. Minor scratches
2. No accidents
3. Good service record
4. Mileage not exceeding 100km+
5. Buy and Drive condition

I have never dealt with Used Car Dealers before. I know trusted sites like Carsome and MyTukar are transparent with pricing that includes OTR price, processing, JPJ, PUSPAKOM and whatnot.
But for Car dealers by the roadside, they advertise promising prices but when I visit the dealer and asked, that is only the 'body price'.
I'm afraid I could get cheated somehow but I would like to minimize that.

I went to a dealer in Puchong to inspect the 308 as advertised but when I asked to test drive, the salesman said that I need to at least book the car first. The car booking is RM500.
I was surprised, I only wanted to test drive the car first before I proceed with any payment. That is already a red flag for me, but I am still hopeful that there won't be any more ridiculous asks anymore.
Didn't ask anymore questions, I just told him that I will ask my wife if she is okay with the car first and we need to test drive before making any decisions.
I could only inspect the car by looking at it only. Exterior looks good and well taken care of for a 6 year old car.

So I went home and WhatsApp him the next day that I will come again if I am able to test drive. He said can. Lol.

Before I proceed any further,

I am seeking for advice or anyone who had experience buying used cars from these dealers? How is actually the process? What are the hidden charges and fees that you actually need to pay for? Is it any different from other car dealers?

Anyone is currently owning a Pug 308? How is your experience?

Thank you in advance!

Expect 3-4k "processing fees" on top of the price.

I was hunting for a used T9 as well last year but ended up buying a new Proton. One of the main reason being where I live it's not convenience to service a peugeot.

Take your time to find a good one and a good dealer. I'd stick with carsome or mytukar if there is a choice.

Thank you for your comment, dares!

I agree, I saw a lot of comments on servicing a Peugeot in Malaysia and they weren't really nice comment though.
But I'm a little hopeful that Peugeot Malaysia might hit with a comeback since they're selling 3008s pretty well. Spyshots on the new 2022 Pug 308 too. New cars coming in I hope their service improves too.

Remove the hope you have mentioned and see if you still want to go ahead with it. That’s a better judgement

Good point, sir.
Now that is removed, I still think I would give it a go. Also now considering Kia Cerato 2016 hmm.gif

The Peugeot brand is being managed by Bermaz now, not Nasim anymore.

Hopefully this will bring their aftersales support up to par.

Do you have a spare car in case the Peugeot having issues and need to spend some time recuperating ?
If yes, go right ahead.... otherwise go in with the risk of breakdown and not having car to use in mind.

I had 4 colleagues who got various Peugeot models... they were raving how great it was for 2-3 years, and after that curse the Peugeot name every time it's mentioned.
They all have got rid of the car, and moved on to something more reliable.

But also 1 colleague who owned a Peugeot MPV (can't remember the model) and had no problem and still driving it now.

So 1/5 or 20% was happy... I hope you will be in the 20% group if you do decide to get it.

First of all there was already a long thread here not so long ago about Pgt ownership with several owners sharing their experiences and vowing that they won't buy Pgt anymore! 😄 So check those out then think again if you still want a Pgt.

Then about those used car dealers, body price means they gonna charge you all kinds of ridiculous fees on top of that, so beware. Just ask clearly what will be the final cost so you can have a clear comparison with other prices. They often charge up to several thousands extra which is utterly ridiculous hence you may avoid those.

The ones that ask you to deposit first before allowing test drive, 100% avoid those! If they're honest and confident their cars are good, they won't do that. I have test driven countless used cars before and not paid a single cent! Heck this is just a bloody normal Pgt anyway, not some rare sports car that need to be protected, so that requirement is pure nonsense!

Yup it is good news to hear but I doubt they will support the older models that were previously handled by Nasim.

Lets see how they perform under the new distributorship. They are doing quite well for Mazda tho (If i remember correctly they are not doing well at first but things starts to take off when they sell CX series SUV's)

Does Carsome or mytukar actually also charging hidden fee or some other random thing that will include only in the final pricingI see on their webpage is what I get?

From what I've researched, I can conclude that the Prince engines have caused MINI to plummet in reliability rankings during their Countryman first era 2010-2016 (before a remarkable turnaround in second era using BMW engines), and now doing the same to the Peugeots.

from what i read carsome is all included except for the insurance.
if you go ahead with carsome, same thing with any 2nd hand car dealer, ask them clearly what is the total fee to take the car away.
if its not as what they said (everything included except insurance), then walk away.

Bought it yet? Please share some info and dealer feedback if any!

Kia Cerato - not too many 2016+ cars available yet, I also liked the car and the value is very reasonable (30-40K) for the value. Kia is also trying to make a comeback so I hope their after sales network gets better. Any feedback?

Peugeot?

Forget it.

After the 5 years warranty, many will sell cheaply to the next buyer to suffer.

All Peugeot models sold here used the same shitty EP6 engine. Peugeot sold in EU all using the new engine. The EP6 also caused problems for BMW and Mini models. Now BMW stopped using it for good.

Bermaz or Nasim same la.

The tech is the problem here. Peugeot sold here used the same problematic EP6 engine for all the models. Sure they fixed it here and there to make it reliable but in the long run, these enhancements will fail eventually.

My 2012 3008 bought used for RM 65K about 6-7 years ago already spent close to RM 20K to fix everything. I even claimed up to RM 18K of brand new parts under the recall program that Nasim didn't bother to inform the customers. Now, in 2022, the so-called enhancement parts started to fail. The turbo failed twice! That's RM 5K to fix it outside. Nasim previously quoted RM 13K.

French people love making beautiful things but are not reliable.

Not yet for Kia Cerato. I’m actively looking for Peugeot 308 now. But since the folks here are saying the engine is unreliable, i am being a little bit worried.

Not sure if it is the previous T7 model or what. I thought the T9 is now improved as some are saying.

All including the Peugeot 308 T9?
I’m really looking forward to buying it 2nd hand. It’s such a beautiful car (to my eyes)

Same engine, the EP6.

If buy new, u will have the warranty. Many will sell after warranty because the car can be very problematic.

Hahaha, despite all the advices, you seem adamant to still go with Pgt. You must already fell in love just because of the looks. Good luck then!
