Ehh... I'm not so sure but renovation at this scale, local council will see if neighbor agree or got complain about it or not before approving? If neighbor got concern, they will not agree, right?

you have your points and they are valid to up to certain points.

but its not for everyone and up to an individual lifestyle.

from your comment i think you mostly had bad neighbours experience.....
been there before and i dun blame you.

neighbour is a small factor.
Better property, better township is a bigger factor.

plus I really dont like the idea of investing real estate.

Thanks for your help ran_deep.

They did told me that it's the drilling type which if not mistaken will bring less effect to the surrounding house?

I am the only house that stick with his house as I am right next to corner house.

They estimated to be 1.5years and fastest to be 1 year because the project is rather extensive.

At the same time, they are not rushing. So it's going to be slow progress.

If they make your house unlivable, perhaps they should compensate you for renting another place.

No neigbour is generous to do that. One should consider lucky oredi if they dont damage the house.

Hi guys, I recently bought a sub sale house and plan to move in for own stay.

So coincidence that my next door which is a corner house sold to someone too. This new owner wanted to do major renovation which include 10+ points of piling and extend the houses all the way. They are in the middle of discussing with engineers and architect for this project and submitting renovation plan to local council soon.

But They are kind enough to inform me that the renovation is planned to start in end of this year and it would take roughly 1.5 years to 2 years. I am home based worker and both my wife and newborn baby would be staying at the house. Since the renovation is superb noisy in the morning so we are forced to find a new place to rent for 2-3 years period  cry.gif

Meaning I would need to pay both my house and rental house which is rather unaffordable for me at the moment cry.gif

Anybody faces this problem before which your neighbour doing major renovation that has unbearable noise for extensive period of 2 years? Any advise from you all?

Thank you very much in advanced.  notworthy.gif

p/s : The house is ~35 years old Double Storey Terrace

They will use silent pile system, so the noise won't be too bad. However, you need to take photos of your house before they renovate; in case any subsequent damage happens due to their reno; you can claim back.

The peak noise that you will encounter is during tile laying; the cutting machine sound can be very loud. This period is roughly towards the completion of the house, probably around month 7 - 10; depends how fast the reno work moves and could last anywhere between 1 month to 3 months.

Hacking will be equally noisy but shouldn't last long, at most 1 - 2 months max.

Renting outside while your neighbour is renovating is not exactly feasible and you never know if you will be in the same situation at the new place as well. What you could probably do is, probably look for baby sitter or temporarily move in to your parents or so during those noisy period only for the day time and come back home in the evening.

Local Council rules prohibit owners from working on renovation after office hours, on weekends and public holidays.
