A career in Food Science is quite good as there are many job opportunities working in the food industries like Nestle, F&N, etc or even going into nutrition. UCSI was one of the first private college to offer Food Science so they have the experience. In every institution there will be good lecturers and not so good lecturers. At UCSI, it is the same and from what I know, they have processes in place like evaluation to ensure that the lecturers maintain the standard. Students sometimes don't understand that any company cannot just fire a staff or lecturer on the spot. There are legal issues. Of course, I am not defending them, just making us aware on this point. The subjects that you will take are listed below:

Year 1

* University Chemistry 1
* University Chemistry 2
* Biology 1
* Calculus & Analytical Geometry 1
* Structural Biochemistry
* Java Programming
* Metabolic Biochemistry
* Food Quality Management
* Co-operative Placement 1

Year 2

* Business Statistics
* Microbiology
* Food Chemistry
* Principles of Nutrition
* Waste Management
* Food Microbiology
* Human Nutrition
* Analytical Chemistry
* Food Processing & Preservation
* Co-operative Placement 2

Year 3
Compulsory

* Nutrition and Metabolism
* Food Technology
* Fundamentals of Food Engineering
* Nutritional Aspects of Human Disease
* Research Project & Thesis
* Co-operative Placement 3

Elective: Choose One

* Physics for Scientists & Engineers 1
* Information Technology 1
* Fundamentals of Marketing
* Physiological Sciences 1
* Physiological Sciences 2

Hi,

I'm new here and I've noticed that no one is talking about the degree for fashion design and marketing in UCSI. I was wondering if anyone can provide any information for this. eg. how is the quality of teaching there? Are they more focused on marketing? do they teach sewing and drawing from scratch? will I really be able to design and construct a clothing well and in the same time understand the business side of this? Are there lots of ppl taking this subject at UCSI?

I'm thinking of taking this fashion design and marketing degree, some more it comes with honors! But before I do I wish that there is some feedback regarding this course from the students in UCSI.

Thanks!
*
This course is actually quite new at UCSI but that does not mean that it is not good.

Their programme combines 75% ‘hands-on’ skills directed towards fashion design, illustration, textiles, pattern cutting and garment construction, and 25% marketing skills. So, it is a majority of practical fashion design with some marketing subjects. hey will be able to communicate, brand and focus their designs towards identified markets. This ultimately will facilitate multiple career opportunities within the fashion industry.

Just PM me if you need more info.

Cheers

hi every1.... i plan to study business admin for my degree in ucsi.... but i have a question here...

i heard that there is a 3mth intership every year rite that we need to pay rm100? is it compulsory?

and is it possible for us to look our own for the internship company?

and is the business course is good like their lecturers?

thanks : )
*
UCSI's business courses are not too bad. Their lecturers all hold at least a Masters degree. The internship is compulsory and it is possible to find on your own for the company but they will have to meet certain criteria.

Cheers

Although I am not working for UCSI, I note with interest the many negative comments about the Africans made. Even if I have my own prejudices and may probably agree with some of the comments, I can't but help wonder how you would feel if you were studying in Australia, and the same comments were made by the so called white ppl that some of us worship as smarter and better than us Asians. I wonder if some of you would have probably joined the Nazis in their campaign with the same kind of thinking.

You know, some of the caucasians find our food smelly, the way we talk unintelligible, how we are bad at public presentations, eat our food with our mouths open and make smacking noises, etc. I wonder, the people who make these comments publicly about other races, what type of people they will turn out to be as parents, as leaders, as our colleagues, etc.

I wonder, what makes us better than them? Our skin colour? I guess, we are better because I have heard some of the ways we treat our Indonesian maids by torturing them, insulting them, treat them with great disrespect. Definitely, we are better.

Just something for you guys and gals to think about.

Cheers.

anyone taking chemical engineering ?
is it hard? and is it general chemical eng, means not more based on petro one..
*
All engineering courses are tough. The degree at UCSI is the B.Eng. (Hons.) - Chemical Engineering (Petrochemical) so it is petrochemical based. However, they do have a Chemical Option so...would be more general but if you look at the subjects, they still contain some petroleum subjects.

The next intake is on August 28, 2012. If you are an outstation student, you should register early and book the accommodation soon as it fills up quickly. Alternatively, you can come earlier to view the surrounding housing areas for your accommodation. You may pm me if you want more info on UCSI and its courses. Cheers!

Added on May 25, 2012, 12:01 amThe lecturers all have at least a Masters degree with some having PhD's. They have experience in teaching as well. In any university, there will always be great lecturers, average and no so good lecturers. Accounting is more focused on the accounting subjects while the Accounting & Finance degree will contain about 40% finance subjects like financing reporting standard, corporate finance, strategic financial management, capital financing & investment, Multinational Finance, etc.

Both will receive exemptions up to the Foundation level in ACCA. If you need more information you may message me. Cheers!

Added on May 25, 2012, 12:03 amGenerally you will need 2 Es in A Levels, 2 Cs in STPM or 5 Bs in UEC to join the degree programmes but note that there will be other specific requirements based on the individual programmes. You may message me for the requirements for the course of your interest. Cheers!

QUOTE(RichardF @ May 18 2012, 01:13 AM)
Typically you need good marks to get in. This is after all the biggest private university in Malaysia. Further information can be found at their website.
*

Added on May 25, 2012, 12:13 amGenerally it is advised that students intending to pursue medical studies to go for the A-Levels as it will prepare them well and recognised world wide for entry. The Foundation in Science will only be accepted by the institution that is offering it. You may message me for more information. Cheers!

QUOTE(ex-killer @ Apr 22 2012, 09:27 AM)

Added on May 25, 2012, 12:16 amThe fees at UCSI is one of the most affordable around for the quality and facilities that you are getting. Note that the PTPTN loan is not available to anyone from any university or college for the Foundation or Pre-U course. The loan is only available for diploma or degree courses. You may message me if you want more details. Cheers!

QUOTE(cloud_nine @ Apr 25 2012, 01:36 AM)
As far as the PTPTN loan application, the officer will look into the offer letter from the uni, and you must score credit in BM. So, it should be ok. You can triple check by call PTPTN up. Visit http://lms.ucsi.edu.my/ptptn-kl for more info.

Archictecture is good in UCSI, you try to join diploma first then proceed to degree if financially allow, otherwise you start work with the diplom cert.

Hope this help.  nod.gif

Added on May 25, 2012, 12:25 amUCSI is one of the first to offer the logistics programme therefore they have quite a lot of experience in running this course. The quality at UCSI is pretty good and the lecturers all have at least a Masters degree with some possessing PhDs. They also emphasise on industrial training so you will get a lot of hands on experience which will be useful in your future work. You may message me if you need more information. Cheers!

Thanks

Added on May 25, 2012, 12:34 amAs a Praxis University, students at CenTHE are allotted industrial practice within UCSI hotels and other 5-star hotels, and will be paid a monthly allowance for their work at these training hotels, convention centres and visitor attractions while
undertaking their studies. Upon graduation, students will be assured of a job guarantee among 5-star hotels namely UCSI hotels, Pullman hotels, the Sarawak Cultural Village and the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching in Malaysia. This is feasible because UCSI students will be given 10 times more industrial work experience than students in a conventional
tourism and hospitality programme.

UCSI University’s Diploma in Culinary Arts equips students with advanced skills in culinary arts (food preparation and
presentation, kitchen setup and organisation, etc.), for food production and knowledge relevant to commercial and mass
catering. The students will also learn other essential skills such as nutrition, sanitation, hygiene and food safety, as well as back office administration (marketing, human resources and accounting skills)

If you require more information you may message me. Cheers smile.gif

Added on May 25, 2012, 12:43 amUCSI is one of the pioneers in offering the music programme other than ICOM. But ICOM is more on contemporary music while UCSI has both Classical and Contemporary. They have been running this course since 25 years ago, so I guess the graduates have been getting jobs if not they would have closed the programme a long time ago. UCSI would be one of the best for their music programme in Malaysia.

The B.Mus. (Hons.) Classical Music programme is intended for those who wish to pursue classical music studies to an advanced level. The programme has the advantage of a very broad-based curriculum without compromising the possibility of increased specialisation in one or more areas. Performance and performance-related studies are especially prominent but other areas such as history, analysis and stylistic compositions are included. This blend of practical work and academic enquiry will produce graduates equipped with a range of skills and knowledge that will be of value to many employers, and at the same time enable them to pursue careers not only as performers and teachers, but also as administrators and managers within the wider music industry and beyond.

Graduates of this programme can find career opportunities in various areas:
Performing: soloist, accompanist, orchestral / chamber musician
Teaching: private, music institutions / centres
Composing / arranging: publishing, production, recording, advertising

The B.Mus. (Hons.) Contemporary Music degree caters to the needs of students who want a career in the popular music industry. By covering key areas of Arranging, Technology, Performance, Recording and Music Business (but not neglecting other related studies such as contemporary music theory, ear training and composition), this programme will enable graduates to pursue challenging and rewarding careers.

Graduates of this programme can find career opportunities in various areas:
Performing: recording sessionist, lounge musician
Teaching: private, music institutions / centres
Composing / arranging: publishing, production, recording, advertising
Music Technology: production, recording, broadcasting
Music Business: management, marketing, administration, retailing and sales

Other than the normal academic entry requirements, you will be required to go for an audition. The next intake is on August 28, 2012.

If you need further information, you may message me. Cheers!

Added on May 25, 2012, 12:51 amIn any university with 10,000 students, there are bound to be problem students. Just because there is one problem student does not make all 9,999 the same. I believe that the university takes these issues seriously and have addressed them accordingly. It is not only the international students that have caused problems in any institution, there are also Malaysians who cause problems.

The diploma in management is a good course and you can go into the degree Year 2 after completion. The fees that you pay for the diploma is cheaper than what you pay for at some private colleges or universities in shoplots with little or no facilities.

Of course, I must admit that your concerns are valid and important. You should visit the campus to take a look for yourself the environment, talk to some of the students there and ask their opinion. UCSI has emphasis on high standards of quality so you will need to maintain your studies well there. The environment is conducive and the lecturers all have at least a Masters degree with teaching experience. Some have PhDs as well.

If you need more information, you may message me. Cheers!

Your question is so general. It depends on which course you are taking. In general you will need 2 principals in A-Levels or STPM to go into a degree programme and UEC 5B's. It is the same for all other private universities. Only difference would be the Health and Medical programmes where the entry requirements are higher.
