To put simply, there is no internet services being hosted in east Malaysia. Everything you do on internet is either hosted in or must go through KL or JB first.

Even if you live in KL lots of direct connection to oversea sites has around 10ms overhead on top of everything else because your connection need to go to SG first for various reasons.
