Wow, really looks more expensive than it is. Its a beauty. The new range of proton cars are all so nice, i particularly love the Gen2. Kudos to LG (they designed this car and the Savvy). After having cursed proton for the past few years, i finally have something nice to say. I hope the BLM's not a let down. But i just wonder how a car that size is gonna run on a 1.3L engine, on automatic transmission and still be fuel economical? I dunno, but if all goes well, i'm booking a white one this mid-year!! YEAH!!!

Technology nowadays can be amazing~
Even the Mazda RX8 runs on 1.3, yet is in the same league as Evo, Celica, etc... whistling.gif

The Campro 1.3 can produce 94hp..that should do the job if the car isn't too heavy~ hmm.gif
*
I guess you're right. If that can power the Gen2 (although a bit under powered) it should power this quite nicely, provided its not too heavy. Sure looks geared up for a proton best-seller.

Design is decent enough, pricing still can be said competitive but what about the quality control ? That's one important factor to consider when buying Proton cars I'm afraid.
*
True. That's why protons have found it difficult penetrating US & European markets. The safety factor. And yes, the little little things that matter. I currently have a waja and the engine is really, really LOUD!! I'd really appreciate if they cut down the engine noise and stop giving silly excuses like- this car is built for sports n all that. Even my 23 year old daihatsu charade's engine is not that loud.

mind you, Mazda RX8 uses wankel rotary engine type which is very different from those piston engines.

it's 1.3L....1.3L is more fuel saving rather than 1.6L....1.6 is really drinking fuel...1.3L still kinda ok
*
u can't calculate like that. if the car has a larger body, it'll need a larger engine capacity to power it. if u put a 1.3L engine in a car that's too heavy it'll end up a bigger drinker than if u put a 1.6L engine cos the engine is working extra hard to push the car.

How much does it cost to install additional airbag in BLM? Anyone know? Cos I heard from sales agent, there's only 1 airbag at driver side.
*
i think the H-Line should have 2 airbags la, like the persona. they'll probably have 3 ranges of cars, the lowest with no airbags, the mid with 1 driver's airbag and the high with 2 airbags. at least i hope la. wink.gif

come on... we're not gonna use this blm for racing, are we? so why bother the maths... as long as it's fc good and affordable, that is all that counts... until u have the money, then dun main proton dy, right?

anyway, the official launching as told by my friend's dad which i mentioned in earlier pages, it's in february...
*
not race la. its all about FC now, cos petrol price won't remain the same anymore =( but in order for the FC to be good, the engine must be powerful enough.

no ...only no line, base line and mid line only....no high line and only have 1 driver's airbag!
*
In that case this is bad. They really are not doing enough about safety, as good as the car looks.

no matter how they design... still looks sxxt

This was designed by Koreans... But i think its a really decent, inoffensive, professional business like, simple no-nonsense design. Very much like what a daewoo used to look like. Well done Proton this time, for not being so arrogant and refusing to ask for help. I suppose they did learn from their mistakes after all. And no, I'm not a proton fan. Just saying from a neutral point of view. Give credit where its due.

Its personal preference...

I still can never understand these things myself

1) Honda City is beautiful???? wtf...??
2) The Interior of Vios is cool! ??? huh?? no kidding......... shakehead.gif
3) The Latio is physically nice...... ok....... rclxub.gif

And if i'm going to say hyundai designs are good (because frankly I really think they are) - i'll probably get shot.

So you see..... beauty is subjective - else fat girls will never marry - but they do marry... so see??
*
Well said old chum! nod.gif but i do think, as subjective as it is, there are some universal guidelines to beauty, don't u think? for instance when a pretty girl walks past, 2 guys don't really have to explain it to each other but they know it when they see it.

Alas... Campro with VIM.
*
If any engineer out there dun mind helping just a little, actually how does this VIM work? is it supposed to be like variable valve timing? i really hate it when car companies come up with fancy names and abbreviations that don't mean anything to us ordinary ppl, and they don't bother to explain...
In addition to the basic DOHC engine, Proton developed its own variable valve timing technology that works similar with other variable valve technologies such as Honda VTEC and Toyota VVTi, named as CPS (Cam Profile Switching) technology. The usage of CPS tehnology will raise the maximum power up to about 127 bhp and will improve the low-end torque to its maximum value which will maintain until about 5,000 rpm.[1] The technology is said to be applied to newer Gen-2s and future models starting from the end of 2005, but both technologies will only be debuted in the facelifted 2008 Proton Gen-2[2][3].

The Intake Air Fuel Module for the Proton Campro engine is now ready, and is only awaiting Proton's green light to begin production. This new IAFM is a basically a variable geometry intake system, developed under a joint fast track programme which began in April 2005 by EPMB, Bosch and Proton.

We first heard of it back in October 2006 where it was still in advanced tooling stages, and ever since then everyone has been eagerly awaiting for the first Campros to roll out with the new air fuel module. The IAFM varies intake manifold length to suit different engine conditions - a short runner length for high revs and a long and narrower runner length for low revs.

If designed properly, this can enhance an engine's torque curve and also help improve the combustion process, making the engine more fuel efficient. This is much-needed with the current Campro engine, which has rather relatively low torque at low to medium engine speeds. The IAFM can be fitted to both Campro 1.3 liter and 1.6 liter engines. The new intake manifold is made of reinforced high thermal plastic which is lighter than the current Campro's aluminium intake manifold

source: wikipedia

I see. thanks for the explanation. So the IAFM is not VVT. I take it that the CPS technology is not, or will not be used in the BLM? Or is the IAFM supposed to be the fuel economy system in place of the CPS for the BLM?

what BLM stands for? why they still using small tires?...z.z.z.

Its going to be called Saga. BLM is just a codename- Base Line Model, cos going to be the cheapest n most basic among the proton range of cars. Tyres small? Really? I dunno, looks proportionate to me. Honda city runs on smaller tyres.

what is the different between N-Line,B-Line and M-Line?
*
No-Line, Base-Line and Mid-Line

No-Line: Only manual transmission, no airbag/other safety features, and i think no radio/CD player also. No central locking and power windows. 13" wheels, Solid colours only.
Base-Line- Auto and manual transmission, solid/metallic colours, 14" wheels, has all standard features but no air-bag.
Mid-Line- Has one airbag, 4 speakers, solid/metallic colours and everything else the Base-Line has.

Price for new saga BLM :
*
Um, how do they calculate the 7 year monthly repayment? Take for example the M-Line solid colour. The OTR price is RM39,500. DP is 10%, so RM4000. Loan repayment should be 35,500/84 months = 422.62.
422.62 + 3.88% interest rate is 439.02.
The price guide shows RM537. I can't seem to reconcile that figure. There's a difference of RM98. The insurance for the 1st year ady included in the 35,500, so could it be they included the insurance payment for subsequent years?

1year interest = 3.88%,
3.88% x 7year = 27.16%
35,500 x 127.16%(include interest) = 45,141.8(total u have to pay over 7year)
RM 45.141.8 / 84month = RM 537.4 /month

oh, i see. Thanks!
