I wonder what's the optimum temperature for the 8800GTX. according to the dual core center, the temperature at idle is around 65 degrees. Recently, I've been playing games like Medal of Honor Airborne, the temperature during gameplay increases up to 78 degrees.

Is it rather high at 78? what is the optimum temperature or the max it can go before it burns off

The G80 GPUs have been tested by NVidia to operate at temperatures near 150C, but I am unsure when the core slowdown threshold is met on the 8000 line. I can assure you though, unless you've removed the heatsink or have an incredibly cramped case with minimal airflow should you be concerned about reaching that temperature. The CST differs from GPU to GPU, but it usually hovers around 125C or so, though I reiterate that only under extreme cases should you find your cards at this temperature.

yeah, i still remember and i actually XP-ed a lot back i'm using 7300GT, vMODed and the idle temp @75°C, while on load 110°C icon_idea.gif, the drop clock thingy, yes, i agree, it's for safety reason preventing blown tongue.gif, a.k.a burnt card... the 150°C actually, tested by nVIDIAs, and they thought that setting 115°C for ideal max temp would be safer icon_idea.gif
