Some people damage their speakers by playing too loud (frying HF element because exceeding its limit). Even if you take extreme care, corrosion can affect the sound (I've experienced this on my compression driver). After many years, the drivers will age badly and crack (due to nature).
This is why I don't want to buy expensive speakers unless I'm filthy rich.
Perhaps some people do not know the importance of the power output of the amplifier.
If the amp is under powered and matched with speakers that are power hungry, then there is a high chance it will damage the speakers, especially when played loud.
It is always better to have amps that can deliver large amounts of power.
Else it will be like putting a 660cc engine into a SUV.
Also, the power output of AVRs cannot be trusted.
It is always overstated.
